Boss GT 100 on Bass!

So I am interested in getting a GT 100 for my Bass. I play with a Jam-Grass band that plays big festivals and tours 150+ shows a year. I use a MTD 635-24 through a Genz Benz ShuttleMax 9.2/ Mesa Boogie PH412. Haven't seen any new threads on this and I wonder how it does in live applications! Thanks for your time!

GT 100 is a guitar multieffect, check out the GT 10B that it’s more suitable for bass. That means that you will have bass amps on modelling, compressors and eq’s with the right frequencies and so on…

If you think that GT 100 is newer model yes you are right, but it’s newer for guitar (GT 10) not bass. And believe me the gt 10b has all the useful add on’s that came afterwards (crossovers etc.) in the first place.

I also recommend to buy one used to save some money, this unit is built like a tank.

Better is hypothetical, sometimes the bass versions of pedals are just marketing but I don’t think that this is the case.

Roland/Boss is making completely different lines for the bass refinements. If the creators think that this is necessary how we can argue with that?

These units are not plug n play also, if you know what you are doing and how one parameter affects the other, you can for sure make good sounds for bass with it. But in the first place you didn’t pick up the right tool and whenever you want to make a specific sound you have to start from scratch.

You have to consider. How can you make a Mesa Boogie emulation to sound like Trace Elliot? You also don’t have other options vital for bass like a multiband compressor which is centered at the right frequencies. You don’t have bass specific od/ and distortions. I also read that the tuner can’t tune the low strings I imagine what that means to the sunth/octaver/pitch shifters /harmonizers tracking. The modulation and reverbs it’s the same in all three Gt 10 Gt 10b Gt 100. Gt 100 has a special delay more the terra echo.

In the end of the day if you are searching for usable sounds in a band context Gt 10B offers more. And because Gt 10b is focused on clean sounds If you play clean, defiantly much more.

The latest firmware adds 2 new amp models (orange and bogner) and some new effects like the tera echo and adaptive distortion.
They have also fixed the tuner, so it works on bass better, also a poly tuner (tune all strings at once) and also pitch to midi added too.

I just want to help and the decision it’s up to you. I have played with GT 100 but I didn’t A/B them because their targets were different in my mind, that’s why you see so many pro bass players use Gt’s and so few guitarists. I hardly recommend reading the manual and presets list of these two. It’s also shame that the GT Central is down. It had much useful information there.Finally I see that you have a nice bass and a decent amp if you stay with this as your main sound GT 100 will be great live.

I have or have had most of the GT's still have the GT-3, GT-5, GT-100,
and have sold on the GT-8, GT-10, GT-6B, and GT-10B.

Yes the GT-10B is specific for bass with bass preamps (nowhere near as many as the GT-10) and some bass specific effects (multi band comp and wah).
I find the GT-100 beats the GT-10B (IMO) in the quality of the amps by a mile, the GT-100 has guitar type amps, but many clean ones are great on bass, and also has custom amp settings.
They are very dynamic and tube like, that has the let down for the GT-10B (and more so for the GT-6B).
If you are not using the GT preamps and effects only, then it is a fairly even race between the 10B and 100, the 100 has more effects and they are more refined, the GT-10B has the multiband comp (which never really did it for me) and the Wah is tuned for bass, the GT-100 wah is OK but doesn't quite hit the spot.
The Tuner issue is just on a low B of a five string bass, the GT-100 USB features are kind of gimmicky (the GT-10B still does USB re-amping).
The GT-100 has all those Accel effects too, but the are just a one trick pony thing too.

What wins in the GT-100 for me is the superb preamps, distortions (non fizzy), and the effects have a certain 'richness and quality' over the previous generation GT,
plus the dual displays which are easy to read, the GT-10B blue screen and lazer bright leds are hard on your eyes on a dark stage.
And I prefer the black paint job of the GT-100.

Do you have validation that the Boss GT-10B is in fact discontinued? I was wondering because no one seems to be carrying it, and so far your thread seems to be the only thing that I could find that states this. Boss/Roland support currently has no way for me to email them that question. Another curious thing, sites such as ebay have them going for outrageous prices in the neighborhood of $900.00?!?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would think that if no one on the planet sells them new any more would be validation enough that the GT-10B is discontinued.
The GT-10 (guitar version has been discontinued for about 3 years, since the GT-100 was released.
Don't expect a GT-100B soon, as Boss seem to issue a bass GT version after about every 3rd guitar GT update.

The GT-100 still works great on bass though, the only gripe with the GT-100 on bass is the Tuner doesn't reach down to low E and B too well (since the version 2 firmware update) and the Wah Q frequency is not quite low enough.
All the other stuff works great, and I think (IMO) the GT-100 excels the GT-10B for bass.

So is there a consensus about the GT100 being good for bass?

I'm itching to get one, back in the guitar days I had GT-6 and GT-8, both very usable multiFXs but there was always something in the sound which was not convincing me enough to keep them. Obviously proper heads with tubes sounded way rounder so I don't want to burn myself with buying this unit without trying it(no way to find one in area).

I'd use the GT-100 with the Peavey Tour 700(solid state) to make it sound fuller, I play mostly driven and distorted sounds on a Thunderbird bass.

My consensus is the GT-100 is very good with bass,
(IMO) the GT-6 is a P.O.S. with grainy nasty drives/distortions, and poor amp sims (the GT-6B was better, but the amp sims still sucked).
The GT-8 was better, but something within it seemed to restrict/roll off the low end frequencies.
The GT-100 has much better drives/distortions and a better frequency response to the low end, the amp sims are much better and more natural,
with a "tubesque" type feel to play response (gain responds great to bass volume knob roll-back).
