Boss GT-10B or GT-8b ?

I was just about to order a GT-10B, and thought I'd better post this first. Both versions (the 8B and 10B) are available from the same store; don't know which one is better. The latest version is not always the best. Does any have know the pros/cons of one over the other?

There was no GT-8B, so I'll assume you mean going from the GT-6B to the GT-10B.

The sound quality is much better. There are two lines of effects. The synth section is a little sparser on the 10B; however, the synth tracks better.

If you get under the hood and build your patches from the ground up, I'd say that the 10 is the unit for you.

You probably want to download the manuals for each and compare them. That should tell you if the 6B does everything you want, or if you want to spring the additional money for the 10B....

I own both models. I used the 6b for almost 5 yrs and just picked up the 10b last month. My only gripe is they left out a nice feature. This is how i setup my 6b; bass to input to amp,basic. I only use it when i want to add an effect to a song,otherwise its in bypass mode. I set the ctl switch to act as a bypass switch and the bank up/down as a tuner switch when pressed together. when i am playing all i have to do is pick the patch i want to use during the song and when i am ready, hit the bypass button and hit it again when i am done to go back to straight bass. Sounds simple right? WELL, on the 10b the bypass feature is part of the tuner feature so when i assign the bypass to ctl1 i am also going into tuner mode. Patches cant be changed in tuner mode. I called Boss on this and they said "ok, so whats wrong with that?" So now i have to setup the 1st patch on 4 different banks to have a natural bass tone and the other 3 setup for effects. Not quite the same as my simpiler 6b setup. Hope i made sense>

What about a true bypass effects loop box that you can switch on and off to incorporate your GT-10b when you want? I'm interested in a GT-10b myself and I didn't know about the T.B. not being on the 10b. But yeah, as I read that I was thinking that's what I'd do to keep my regular tone...you know, regular lol.

Anyhow, if you give that a try let me know how it works, bro! :bassist:

Since my last post i have changed my config, i now use it in MANUAL MODE. This way all i do is assign an effect to a pedal and use them as needed, like a stomp box, this way if all pedals are off-its my bass. So far so good.

This is pretty much my only gripe with the GT-10B.

Interestingly enough, even though you can't change patches in bypass, you can use the ctrl pedals to change banks, and turn on and off any effect modules in that particular patch while in bypass. It's better than nothing - the cooler way to do it, I think, would be to have the tuner/bypass mode as is, and add Bypass as a possible function in Manual Mode.

It's a moot point for me. I always have the compressor and the parametric eq on as part of my sound.

VT, that would work, but it sort of defeats the purpose of having a very good sounding bypass on the unit itself.

Good to know, man...as soon as money (and my band lol) permits, I'll be grabbing one of these. Our 2nd album will be a dark one, the effects should make the bass pretty eerie, but I'm glad you found that little trick out so I don't have to get one of those bypass boxes :D

The way i set it up in manual mode:
patch 1-Boost
patch 2-Octave down with mix at 30%
patch 3-funky touch wha
patch 4-a little Flange (reminds me of the o'jays for the love money)
CTL1-Bypass/Tuner
Ctl2-turns on light over drive

So far this has worked great. When we play Sly Stone's Higher, i get to use the octave and the over drive,STAND BACK!!!!!
