Boss GT-10B

After about 6 month serious gigging I can tell you this thing rocks. The GT10B feeds my inear system and the PA. I left my amp at home and I never had more fun playing live. Like GazzBass said it sounds really good in the studio and through my inear system. The sound through the PA is also very impressive. I have no complaints at all.

Hi there,

Is there any possibility to have bypass on this thing beside tuner mode (during which it's not possible to change banks and patches) or making a preset which is clean and using it as a bypass? I made about 15 user presets which are arranged to several banks, and sometimes I have to switch fast betwen diferrent banks from bypass, and it's frustrating that I have to exit tuner mode (which I assigned to CTL 2) and then switch banks and presets.

Maybe the only good solution would be to have first (or any) user preset in every bank assigned as clean (all off) and so when I'm using any bank I can go to bypass anytime by pressing first (or any other of four) footswitch. But this seems to me as waisting potencials of this GREAT thing.

Any input on this?

That´s exactly what I did (and always do, and have doen on previous multi-effects units) except on this one I have the compressor switched on when I choose the clean patch, before I used to have the EBS multicomp in fornt of the multi effects units and that was always on as well. :)

@bassophile: How much sounds do you need in one song? I arranged it a little different. One preamp model for one bank and the effects were started with with the ctrl pedals. I change the fx chain with the patch buttons and switch to the tuner mode with the pedal sw. So I can achieve 4 sounds in one patch and 16 sounds in one bank. This is more than enough for me.

Bassophile, I use the multi-band compressor with whatever the setting was that was in the GT10B preset, I just figured I give that a try before changing it, but so far I´m very happy with it. :)
I use the Boss compressor preset (which I have changed to make it more extreme) for Peter Gabriel´s Sledgehammer, that way I get a more Tony Levin-like sound.

So you actually like the Boss' model better than the EBS Multicomp? If that's the case, Boss has made some serious progress with their models!

I can´t say I like it better, I just thought one less stomp box equals less cable equals better signal...I still have the EBS Multicomp, I couldn´t sell it for the same reason you mentioned, I just thought I give the GT-10B the benifit of the doubt, and so far so good :)
Have you checked out all the new compressor options Boss has build in this machine? Not only are there a variety of models but the options you have to tweak that multi-band compressor are very good.

@bassophile: You have the possibility to configure the 4 patch buttons (sorry, don't know how to call them in english) in the Play Option Menu. Go to Num Pdl SW and dial in the change of the fx chain A/B. You can also dial in the tuner/bypass mode by stepping on the active patch button.

I think that settles it then. I'll be getting this in June.

Thanks, that clears your concept. I will experiment with it these days

I added the HQ code to the link.

Good demo. This thing sounds pretty good for a multi. I particularly like the Mark King setting and the dynamic channel trigger. The OD sounds a little harsh though.

I don't think it will ever be possible to attain a true fretless image using any modeling, but the "defretter" sounds cool nonetheless.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts on fretless are: buy a fretless bass, defretter effect sounds nothing like the real thing, I try to keep my equipment to a minimum and we only play one song with the band that needs a fretless, but I think it´s well worth the extra trouble of taking an extra bass to gigs..well I even take it to rehearsals.
