Boss GT-1B discussion thread

I would suggest first deciding on how you want to use this unit.
My idea was to use it as a pedalboard, that I sold last year. So, I built couple of the patches from the start. Than I made couple of aditional ones for synth sounds, connecting fuzz and octaver, or t-wah. Yes, Boss GT-1B has synth effect, but its tracking is hit or miss, depending on your bass guitar.
Yep.
If you wanna use your gt1b like a "all in one device" to go straight out to PA, i suggest you start tweaking it like a traditional amp, choose one modelling amp and eq to taste and then add your fx (compression or etc..). That's how I use it. I send left out to PA so FOH guy do his work and send right out from gt1b to my stage amp, if I need any tweaking, i do it on my stage bass amp just to hear myself better (most of cases just a boost on midrange).

Hey everyone, I also just got a new GT1-B, and already having a lot of fun with it. I'll probably pop in here and there quite a bit. I agree that many of the presets are useless but once I figured out how to alter them and use them for myself I was having a lot more fun. The possibilities are endless.

I do have a question though... I have a plug into my computer through USB and I am using Reaper. The software is detecting the sound and you can see it. However when I play back a recorded track I can't get any sound out of my headphones which are plugged into the back of the GT1-B. I'm sure it's just a setting but I haven't been able to figure out which one it is. Anyone using reaper with this? Any ideas?

There is a thread about DAWs somewhere and I think this was mentioned in it. I’d guess that you have to plug your headphones into your laptop for playback though. I don’t think the DAW would play back from the GT-1B. Could be wrong though.

I'm not a Reaper user, but to me it seems like you are using wrong Sound out. Reaper is probably playing the track on your PC soundcard instead of Boss GT-1B. If that's the case, you need to find some lind of properties inside Reaper and choose prefered sound out.

Within Reaper, go into the preference and change the output into GT, that should play it back then connect the GT output into a bass amp. I run everything from my gt 1, into ableton live, then out of the ampeg. Or select your laptop soundcard as previously mentioned.

Can one use a lower-cost aftermarket two-button footswitch with this or does it need to be the BOSS footswitch?

If the specs truly match, latch or not, conductors, etc... any brand of switch should work. In reality, it's a simple tip / ring circuit.

If you don't know how to correctly read and understand the specs or determine if another would match, save the stress and use a Boss model stated in the manual.

Yes you can, ai even made one using some spare parts I had lying around and it works perfectly.

I'm getting a lot of hum when I'm in the driven patches with my vintage single coils. Is this expected?

Like almost unusable loud.

Not sure about the gt1b, waiting on Santa to bring mine, but drives in general are a noisy pedal. Presets are often not set up the best either so go in and make adjustments to the drive and gain setting for that effect and see what happens.

No issues at all here...

If you mean something like a 60 Hz hum, try a different power supply, or at least breaking the chain with the other pedal. If you don't have another, try the GT-1B on batteries, and/or the other pedal on battery and the GT1-B alone on the PS..

I'm powering mine with a Voodoo Labs supply and it's clean as a whistle.

Sometimes power can be source of noise. I would try Boss with batteries and Phones to rule it out.

I tried two different power supplies, headphones and amp and its still pretty bad.

Maybe I'll try batteries.

Its ok with my P bass w/ Geezers. So might just be a single coil + drive thing.
