Boss GT-1B discussion thread

Bought a Boss GT-1 for guitar and it was love at first sound. I prefer it’s sound to my Boss ME-80 and Line6 POD Go and fits in the pocket of my gig bag. So, I bought a Boss GT-1B for the bass players at my church. They both dig the “Liverpool” patch.

I brought the GT-1B home to test in my home studio this week. I hope to create new patches and download from from the internet to add more tones. After all, the factory user patches are copies of the factory presets. Will do testing through both headphones and a FRFR.

How does it sound when plugging the GT 1B into a Babyface IN 3/4 input? Using an active DI might introduce noise. Passive might be better.

i need to be able to use it with a direct box live.

unfortunate, because i really love the GT-1B preamps.

i use Helix Native in my studio, with some minor EQ and level tweaking, the Helix bass amps are amazing.

Stomp.

I just started using my GT-1B again last week after playing upright almost exclusively for the past couple years. My configuration:

Bass >> Hartke HA3500 >> fx send >> GT-1B >> SansAmp >> fx return >> two 4x10 speakers. I was using a PA power amp to drive one of those cabinets, and may eventually return to that.

In any event, this configuration allowed me to delete all the amp/speaker models from my patches along with all ODs, preamps etc. I still use the Boss’ EQs a bit just to emphasize certain things. But between the hi & lo pass filters and graphic EQ of the amp, plus the tone controls of the SansAmp, there’s a huge amount of ‘standard’ tone shaping already in play.

I got to play with it for about an hour today. It sounds awesome. The GT-1B does modulation effects well, and this configuration cleans them up and lets them shine.

EDIT: I just returned to the PA power amp driving the second cabinet. The speakers are much happier this way, without the Hartke’s power amp section getting pushed so hard.

I wish The Edit feature remained active longer. There’s one addition I need to make: to drive a PA power amp from the balanced out of the Hartke, a preamp is needed. The one I’m using is a Behringer mini mixer. XLR in from the Hartke, simple 12 inch 1/4” patch cord into the PA amp. With 350 watts hitting a 4x10 and 550 hitting the other 4x10, there is no clipping whatsoever. It sounds phenomenal.

I’m tempted to get a PreSonus tube preamp for this purpose, just for kicks. But likely will not.

Hi, I am trying to assign my EXP SW pedal to tuner, globally, not to just one patch.
Im having problems doing this.
I want my tuner to activate when I heel press the SW pedal and return to patch when I toe press it.
I can get it to do this on a single effect patch, but not globally.
Any help appreciated.

In the preferences menu (PREF) you can select the action for the EXP SW to be per patch or system wide. Did you try this?

I'm on the road, so I'm doing this in offline mode.

Then "Write" before making any other changes?

If you did and it didn't work, I'll try mine when I get home. One thing about Tone Studio is that if you leave an edited patch before writing to the device, the changes are lost.

Hi, yes I did. When I click on the WRITE button, its still indicating that the change is assigned to a U patch number.

I do not have a GT-1B but I have a GT-8 and a GT1000 Core. Re-reading your original question I think there is a misunderstanding.

"I want my tuner to activate when I heel press the SW pedal and return to patch when I toe press it."

The expression pedal has only one SW (switch) which can be clicked when toe pressing the pedal. When you heel press the pedal the EXP SW is NOT clicked. If you would use the EXP SW to activate the tuner you would have to press the expression pedal toe down, and to deactivate again press the expression pedal toe down.

So, I am confused how you got the action you describe to work (even if it is on only one patch).

The action you describe is something you could do with one of the 6 Assigns and the position of the expression pedal (EXP1 LO targets the tuner momentarily, something like that...I guess that is how you did set it up?) but on the GT-1B an assign cannot be global/system wide but only per patch. This Assign method does not incorporate the expression pedal switch, so setting it's working to be system/global would indeed have no effect.

Ah, just missed the post by @Plain Old Barry . Did you understand that @nandj wants the tuner to be activated when the expression pedal is pressed heel down? There is no action from the EXP SW in that position. Maybe I still don't understand the question (English is not my native language..).

I missed that! Thanks for pointing it out. I agree there is no setting for that action.

English IS my native language and I salute you for reading more closely than I.

This clarifies things greatly, many thanks all for taking the time to respond.
I will have to change my plan then, perhaps use the CTL switch as a tuner activate pedal? This can be a global setting I assume?

Anyone use the compressor on their GT-1B exclusively ? I've played around with tone studio enough to know there's soo much potential with this unit but I often avoid it, or just set aside four hours to get what I want done with it... only recently have I considered experimenting with the compressor. I've played without one for so long.....
Thanks !!!!!

Just plugged into mine for the first time in awhile. It's always a good time fiddling and tweaking. Seriously thinking about setting it up to use for gigs. Compressor/ tuner my first priorities. I've never played through it stereo but looking forward to trying that too.

Hey guys I need a little help with my setup

The problem more than likely is I'm such a novice and I just can't figure out this stuff but I'm having trouble with my effects pedal setup and not that it seems centered around the gt1b but it's when I plug it into the chain where I start having my problems

Set up is as follows

Bass

Chancellor fuzz wah
Demonfx d7k
Joyo dyna compressor
Digitech envelope filter
Gt1b
Tc electronics bq250
Warwick 1x15 cab

In order

It seems if I have everything off a tone and volume drop happens when I add the GT1B

Even if I turn the limiters and preamps off the tone just sounds different running through

How do I add this to the chain without it affecting the tone that I have going into it?
