Boss GT-1B finally here

Can someone help me? Is it possible to use this unit WITHOUT an external amplifier? I'm under the assumption that you can just plug in your headphones and bass only and play and get sound no problem.
I picked up a GT1-B recently and I cannot get any sound out of it at all in this manner. In the menu I set it the output to headphones. If I do need to hook up an external amp, why would I need the headphones jack on the effects unit itself and not use the one on my amp?

Yes it can. I would check your cables and all of your connections. It's possible you don't have the level up high enough on the patch you are using.

I’m about to purchase the GT1-B.
Does it have midi capabilities?
And can it be connected with an iPad to use it with apps like GarageBand, JamUp or Amplitube?

It has limited midi capability, but the biggest deal-breaker for Boss products is they are not USB class compliant, and require USB driver software to be installed, which is supported only on Windows and Mac OS-X, (and Linux has a generic driver built in too).
So it is possible to use it as an audio interface on Mac OS-X or Windows and not on iOS?
