I can see why. I have to find out more about ms3.
I think the gt-1 sounds amazing on my guitar and if this bassversion is half as good. But then again on my guitar I use more effects.

It got aux in and phones out for home practice. That alone is worth a lot to me.

Yeah I already have a pedal board with a Preamp and Cabsim if I didn't the choice would be harder.

Just looking through the parameter list and there a couple of nice things there.

Bass guitar simulator - makes a passive sounds active and vice versa, or humbucker to single coil or acoustic etc. Could be useful - may be able to get a pseudo J sound out of a P or P out of a J?

Master EQ. Not something you usually see on multi's at this price point, but very useful.

They seem to have focussed on what bass players normally use, rather than filling with tons of delays and reverbs... which is nice.

Is there a published owners manual on this thing yet? [edit: the manual is actual up and available via the BOSS GT-1B web page - support tab.]

Generally, Boss/Roland is always excellent for providing a wide choice of parameters and the ability to have more advanced control of multiple parameters. Their editor (for the GT-1) is also very slick. Boss does a lot "right" under the hood IMO, in terms of a broad set of features. +1

Boss writes:
  • Flagship-class BOSS sound engine specially tuned for bass"
Does anyone know exactly what that is supposed to mean? If they actually re-wrote or improved the overall modeling code, then they should just say so. Otherwise, I'm reading this to mean that all they did was take existing code and tweak it to be tuned for bass, which doesn't necessarily mean that the core modeling is any different than it's been over the last decade using existing COSM models for cabinet modeling. Thoughts or insights please?

Where I see the problem - for live users looking for an all-in-one for live use - is with the tap-dance you'll be doing to switch modes, tune, etc. such as was the case with the popular Zoom B3 (though the B3 was far more limited with only 3 fx slots).

Also, Boss has followed suit in NOT supplying an XLR. I'm sure we shall hear the continued groans, and though I personally would rather have an XLR than not, I can see where some users are going to be aggravated by this. Ditto for no traditional MIDI I/O, which would have been a GREAT addition since you can usually do a lot of things with these Boss pedals using an external MIDI controller of some sort (mini) to make up for some of the live footswitch shortcomings. An FX LOOP would also be nice, but again, things aren't trending that way in the sub $200 US multi-fx pedal market.

A few other things I'm curious about: 1) speed/lag when changing patches; 2) echo/reverb "tails" spillover between patches; 3) is the order and routing scheme fixed, or are there settings for parallel routing? If you CAN do some sort of serial/parallel combinations, that's a HUGE win IMO.

All this factored in, it's definitely a neat little pedal and I may consider it as a complimentary flavor to my existing stuff. Need a round of sell-off methinks. I'm such a sucker for small format multi-fx! LOL

Except you can add external footswitches, meaning you could have 2 buttons for switching patches, 3 total switches to activate/deactivate effects, and the expression pedal. This puts it closer to the G3Xn in terms of live usability.

It looks pretty good to me.

Yes, of course, but then it's no longer an "all-in-one" if you need to add switches to make it comparable to a pedal that is already, truly, all-in-one. Preference, and nitpicking on my part, really. Not a big deal.

I think this is a "you say potato" situation. If I want an expression pedal with the Zoom, I have to buy it. If I want to switch patches with the BOSS, I have to buy it. I have to buy a DI with both.

Screw it, I'm sticking with pedals. :D

Yes, we're quibbling over wording here. The B3, to me, was already an all-in-one. It was just an all-in-one that was incredibly obnoxious to use live. The GT-1B, similarly, is definitely an all-in-one, IMO. It's just an all-in-one that doesn't have as many switches out of the box as a different all-in-one.

By your reasoning, a Helix owner would (could) look at the G3xn and say "that's not an all-in-one, the Helix is an all-in-one!" Not only does it not come with the same number of footswitches, you can't add on enough to even get close, right? Heck, you could even compare the G3s to G5s and say the same thing.

Regardless, whether you want to call it an all-in-one or not, all I'm saying it's a big step up from the B3's UI. IMO, of course. Based off of what little I've seen.

If we're comparing pedals within the same price point, level of quality, footprint, and functionality (at least in terms of switching), then there is not much that a Helix, Helix LT, AX8, FX8, or Atomic Amplifire 12 would have in common with the G3n, G3xn, B3n, or BOSS GT-1B. The comparisons pretty much begin and end with the notion that they are all multi-fx modelers, but that's about it. However, you certainly could compare the Amplifire original 3 button with the GT-1 or ZOOM G3n, at least in terms of footprint and function. Price and external interface capabilities would be the big differentiators (leaving out subjective quality of sounds).

Can we just agree that, as a stock item, the footswitching on the GT-1B may be cumbersome for some users to get along with?

That's great news,
I'm just looking for a floor multi FX for bass and thinking of buying a used GT-100.
Could this little unit be a better choice? Price difference is irrelevant.

I'm mainly looking for nice ODs, fuzz and some other fx like delays/flange/chorus. And of course a dual FX chain with dual amp sims.
