Boss SY-1 Synth

Yeah, I figured the Boss stuff would work seamlessly. I actually want to use a dual switch over an exp pedal. Presumably, you wouldn’t be able to do both the freeze and tap tempo functionality simultaneously with that pedal, or am I wrong about that?

Yep, totally get that. I guess what I was asking was if that pedal could have the same functionality as the dual switch, but I don't think it does. Must need the Boss dual switch for that.

I did contact Boss about it. Apparently any aftermarket dual switch isn't supported, which makes sense. I don't really want to buy a Boss version. Kind of expensive, larger footprint, and they require power. That's why I like the small Mosky or Rock Stock ones, don't need a battery or a spot on my already too-crowded CS6 and I've got no more room on my board. They told me to take my pedal to the store and demo it with a Boss switch to see if it still has problems.

Anyhoo... I did figure out what seems to be a pretty OCD type solution this afternoon. If I power up the SY-1, then turn it off, then back on with 2 pedal taps, plug in the TRS into the SY-1, and only then plug the other end into the dual switch, it seems to be good to go. Seems to work every time (so far), so I'm going roll with that until it doesn't.

I believe the type of dual switch compatible with Boss gear are ones with normally closed contacts, which open when pressed (as opposed to the regular close when pressed switch).
The Boss dual switches are programmable to be normally open or normally closed, and latching or momentary.

If you do go for a Boss dual footswitch, the FS-7 is quite good, but requires external 9 volt power.

I think you are on to something here. The FS-7 operates as normally-closed momentary with no power attached, then 'programmable' via the rear switches when powered. Surely they would take this into account & allow the FS-7 to be used with the SY-1 unpowered (normally closed)...

Interesting. If the FS-7 functions this way unpowered, I'd consider buying it (only assuming I continue to have problems with the rockstock). Really like the form factor of the small dual switch though. Fits in the small side compartment on the bag for my Nano+. I told myself that my board can't get any bigger (and then it did). I was already at capacity when I added my SY-1 (and have it daisy chained & dual-locked to the top of my HFP on my board in a kind of double decker type situation, with the dual switch floating on the floor). But, the SY-1 is worth it. So many easily accessible synth sounds without spending time with an editor. And, especially with the sequencer sounds, pairs really well with a looper. But, tap tempo is a must for that application. Having a lot of fun with it.
