Bought a new combo amp but..

This amp has an XLR output and I wonder what is the best small device that will allow me to hook up a pair of headphones? I'm looking at a Rolls PM50. This should work no?

Scratch that. I have an old heaphone amp I can use. I just need to pick up a cable.

You've already spent quite a few dollars. Just spend a little more on a Zoom B1on and you can practice with headphones anywhere as well as play around with some effects and jam along to your mp3's.

The Zoom is pretty cool. Not sure if I need an effects pedal yet but that would work perfectly.

I have a $250 headphone amp that will work fine too once I buy a $10 cable. I received the amp as a gift from Garage1217 when i took a couple of his amps to a show for people to demo. He gave it to me and it's been sitting on a shelf for 2 years un-used since I prefer tube amps. Point is I wouldn't mind finally having a use for it.

I may pick up that Zoom anyway considering the price. Thanks for idea.

Hmmm it can play drum tracks. Now that is cool! Ok sold. Buying one now.

I rarely use any of the effects on the Zoom. For me it's just a way of being able to practice quietly with headphones or with a small battery powered speaker anywhere I want. So handy to take out on the balcony with a drink on a nice afternoon in the sun and play for an hour or two.

The only other time I use it is at a mates place in his jam room and it is effectively a DI for me so I don't have to take an amp. I'll occasionally use a tremolo effect or an octave-up 8 string effect but that's about it. And yeah, the drum tracks are good to jam along to as well. A seriously handy piece of kit for the money.

In saying that, your headphone amp probably has much better sound and volume for practice in a room where you've already got it set up.

Sorry to hear about your mom, that's hard. That's essentially why I was into photography for a while.

Unfortunately for you, you've now cheated yourself out of the time honored tradition of blaming your gear for the first year or so. "Dude, it's this bass... No, wait. My amp... um, cab... crap..."

Since you guys like pictures. Here is the Zoom. It is pretty damn cool. I love the drum tracks! I'm using my headphone amp from Garage1217 for headphone duty but the Zoom is very cool.

My condolences :( That is a wonderful reason to want to learn to play - a great way to maintain a connection to her.
But ANY age is a good age to learn something new, especially learning an instrument.

And, excellent rig! Love the finish on the Jazz.

Yeah when I went in originally the guy asked my budget and I said I didn't have one. I think that is usually an indication that I'm willing to drop some coin. I wasn't sure what I was doing other than knowing which bass guitar I wanted. The next sales guy (after returning the guitar combo amp) brought me over to the other smallish combo amps and I was like..."what about something like this: (me pointing at the Mark Bass) and his eyes lit up! This guy was way more knowledgeable though and he was much more helpful.
