Bourbon...

I managed to find several bottles of Blanton’s last weekend; and several bottles of Weller Red a few weeks back; so, should be relatively set for a while.

Family was in town last weekend, and we did a neat tasting to compare Blanton’s, Woodford Double Oaked, and McKenna’s. Tasting was neat, even though most of my bourbon is enjoyed on the rocks, like a civilized person. Don’t worry, I always drink my Scotch Whiskey neat.

Anyhow, the McKenna’s is a VERY different style. Great, but a little towards a Scotch vibe. The Woodford and Blantons were extremely close. On the rocks, I doubt I could discriminate. Neat, the Blanton’s was just VERY slightly more balanced. Come to think of it, I might be inclined to mostly have my Blanton’s neat.

I’ve also enjoyed the Old Ezra 7 Year and the Wild Turkey Rare Bird Single Barrel, FWIW. Very nice.

Picked up a Knob Creek 12, a Joseph Magnus cigar blend, Old Forester 1924 and a Wild Turkey 8 year 101. Can't wait for the weekly Tuesday gathering/tasting.......

Yes there is, but for what you have, no.
That's easy to buy about anywhere for $60-ish a bottle. The secondary market isn't exactly hopping for that bottle,

I plan to. Just curious when I read about how availability and location can make some bottles available in one area rare in another. I don’t think I’d sell it anyway as it is a little tough to get witHoyt a connection around here and it’s very good.

Wow, I can’t believe that I missed this thread after all these years, but I did mention my bourbon obsession several times here on TB way back between 2008-2012.

Anyway, my all-time favorites are the wheaters from the Stitzel-Weller distillery. Old Weller Antique bottled in Louisville is a regular staple. The ones available after Louisville (from Bernheim) up until about 2006 are good too, then you have those distilled by Buffalo Trace which are still ok but not as good as those earlier bottlings from Louisville and Berheim (now I’m starting to geek out). I can’t even say what the current Weller 107 tastes like, because I cant get it anymore.

A favorite non-wheater of mine that was very afforable but no longer in production is the Wild Turkey Russell’s Reserve 101 proof. I don’t open those very often. The WT 8yo & 12yo are good too, but they were much harder to find by the time I started building up my bunker.

There are many others that I like and drink on occasion, but I’m already feeling like I’m boasting, and that wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to express how much of a bourbon nut I am, and mention a couple of the (affordable) brands that got me hooked on bourbon. I haven’t bought any in years, because it became such a popular thing, and now you can’t even get any of the good ones anymore without getting on some list or joining some lottery and then you have to pay the super big bucks (now I’m ranting, sorry). The bottle flippers kind of ruined everything (more ranting, sorry again).

Sorry, I can’t even chat about the current offerings, because I can’t afford to buy them (the really good ones anyway).

So yeah, I love me some bourbon.

My dad was my own Leo Fender, making custom solid brass string thru bridges, saddles, & control plates for many of my basses.

My father was a woodworker and one of the earliest, pre-teen memories I have is of him is making me a little wooden boat as he showed me how to navigate and work in the shop. Yes, indeed they had a nice long run.

Wow, so I just saw this thread for the first time late last night, and today I read thru all 33 pages up to now. I purposely read thru without logging in, because I knew I’d be too tempted to reply to numerous posts and I didnt want to clutter up this end of the thread. It was a good trip down memory lane reminding me of many experiences that I also had over those years, thanks!

I’d like to give a shout out to @Chuck King , who’s name I recognize from the StraightBourbon forum. Wow, I never knew you were even a bass player, small world. I haven’t been active for a long time on SB, but I do still go to Randy & Wade’s gatherings here in Houston. Anyways….Hi, good to see you here!

Also would like to offer my condolences to @2saddleslab on the passing of your father. I can tell he was a great guy and had a really nice run of 94 years! I’ll raise my glass in honor of him later tonight….Cheers!

I mistook you for a guy named Chuck on the StraightBourbon forum. The way you spoke about bourbon, and then seeing you are in Chicago, I thought for sure you must be the renouned bourbon writer named Chuck K. Cowdery. I’m laughing at and kicking myself now and feel so embarrassed. Please accept my sincerest apologies.

Any tips on selling an ultra rare bottle would be appreciated.
I've seen the normal bottling at Total Wines for about 550 and I've got one of the very few special bottlings of it from 2012 that I keep holding onto in hopes of figuring out the best way to market it.

My father was a woodworker and one of the earliest, pre-teen memories I have is of him is making me a little wooden boat as he showed me how to navigate and work in the shop.
