Boutique Short Scale Options?

German bass builder Bassline-Bass has a nice Short/ Mediumscale Instrument called Bustiny.

My second suggestion would be this, which I also have, but I'm much more a Stingray guy. This bass is capable of lots though, and feels awesome.

Yep I'm not much into the boutique NS myself. That Supro is much more my alley. I love the Reverend and the Serek designs; but even a Banshee would be cool.

I have a Lefay short-scale (30") fretted and a Lefay medium scale (32") fretless. They are amazing instruments. I also have a fantastic Marleaux 30 and a killer Stambaugh 30". All of these instruments compare favorably to the very finest basses on the market.

I'm having a 30" Stambaugh built right now. It's my second build with him and my first short scale. I'm super excited and it sounds like he's had a lot of experience in recent years with designing and building short scale basses. When I first brought up the idea I expected him to tell me it was crazy or, like most people, explain all the reasons to do something at a more standard length. Instead he said "Short scales are great, I play one myself!"

G'day all!

Can I first make a plug for a couple of Australian builders whose short-scale stuff is incredible: Link Removed and Curtin Smith Guitars - both incredible luthiers and both will run you under budget with the exchange rate.

And then I'd say take a look at Imanol Egilegor's stuff - I have a 32" single-cut that he made me and I absolutely adore it. Can't recommend highly enough and I gushed about it here.

The aesthetics can be polarizing, but I don't think anyone would accuse a Linc Luthier Danger Bass of being "Strat shaped"!

There's a small company from the Czech Republic called Red Bird who makes a cool looking short scale you can customize. It's in line with the prices of other boutique brands being tossed around in this thread.

I first saw it pop up on YouTube when the algorithm correctly predicted something I'd like.



I saw an American guy on Reddit ordered one. He said they were easy to talk to about what he was looking for, and it took a few months for them to build it. I'm waiting to see him follow up after he gets it soon to see how he likes it.

I've also been wanting to see someone here buy one and review it.
