I used to own a star player TV and it had the worst neck dive I've ever experienced due to their proprietary tuners. I couldn't in good conscience try the bass for fear of the same heartbreakDursenbergs are beautiful instruments. My old guitar player had one, it was indeed glorious.

That was going to be my suggestion, but I see the OP is uninterested. I have one on order and can't freeeeeeeeeking wait. I check out lots of vids on lots of shorscales and the cat bass did me in.

My second suggestion would be this, which I also have, but I'm much more a Stingray guy. This bass is capable of lots though, and feels awesome.

That one cool axe, but what the hell is that brand name?!!German bass builder Bassline-Bass has a nice Short/ Mediumscale Instrument called Bustiny.

I also have a fantastic Marleaux 30 and a killer Stambaugh 30". All of these instruments compare favorably to the very finest basses on the market.
(Three months is too short to accuse this of being a Zombie Thread Resurrection, right? Asking for a friend...)
The aesthetics can be polarizing, but I don't think anyone would accuse a Linc Luthier Danger Bass of being "Strat shaped"!
