Boz Scaggs' Bass Player

Can anyone tell me who the Bass Player was for Boz Scaggs on the Silk Degrees album?

Dave Hungate. Possibly others, but definitely Hungate. He was responsible for the Lowdown groove.

Silk Degrees is one of the best examples of great bass playing in support of the song I can think of, awesome use of double stops too.

Two thoughts: The live version of "LowDown" is just great - I was sick to death of the original version (it *did* get played to death on the radio) but when I was in a cover band that played this tune, I hunted down the live version - much more dynamic. I dont' know if it was Hungate again, but it was good.

Second thought: I don't mean to be rude, but the OP could have just GOOGLED the album to find this out... Likely as not, it have actually been less work than posting to this TB...! Just something to consider...

Silk Degrees was a Toto album with Boz Scaggs singin' lead.
If you like "Lowdown"...check out "Harbor Lights". Hungate has taste & chops.

Yes, he really does. I enjoyed the Youtube interview. Especially his comments about the problems he sees in most players - not respecting time, rushing.

Also his comment about always seeking out the best players he can find even if he made less money playing with them. That's pretty good philosphy in anything one does...

Awesome song and playing. If i remember correctly the studio version was played with a pick and the double stops were overdubbed or punched in. It's a easy line to play but very hard to nail that groove correctly.

True but I'm glad he didn't. It made me think of Boz Scaggs music which I haven't done in many many years. And your comment about a live version will cause me to search You Tube for this.

I can understand where you came from with your reply but I think it's good to facilitate conversation and recommendations for the rest of us.

We all know Toto, and Boz Scaggs.
He was house bassist on an old TV show that Ricky Scaggs
hosted.
Some great guests, and playing.

I'm in a Boz Scaggs phase right now, great stuff.

Really like Jojo and Harbor Lights, just listened to the latter for the first time with earphones , Hungate is a fantastic player!
