Has anyone been robbed before? I woke up and opened the door to my sunroom to let my dog out. The first thing I noticed was that the sliding door to go outside was wide open. The second thing I noticed was that of all the crap I had in there, the scum bag that trespassed onto my property stole my bass and it's bag. Not my amp. Not my pedalboard. The piece of crap stole my bass. I'm just so confused and pissed off right now. I'm going to study music in college and I REALLY needed this summer to get ready. This is just ruined my summer.

Sure have. It can be pretty traumatic
I lost my first rig (MIA Jazz, amp and cabs) to ex-bandmates. I'm pretty sure that was who broke into my house anyway. That's all that got taken.
Had a professional (day job) acquaintance steal an Adamas guitar. I know she took it. She admitted it
Had my house broken into 3 or 4 times but never lost any other gear

Be sure to post about this in the Lost & Stolen forum. It sucks that you got robbed. That forum and the people that frequent it have had a decent track record of recovering stolen gear.
The best thing to take away from incidents like this? It's SO IMPORTANT to have your gear documented and insured. Photos, specs and serial numbers can be incredibly helpful in filing police reports, recovering stolen gear or filing insurance claims for that equipment.

Bought a very heavy 410 cab off ebay to be shipped to my house. Watched and waited for the shipment on the UPS package tracker for the delivery. I showed up 1 hour after it was delivered and it was no where to be found. The driver dropped it off almost the house where it could not be seen from the front or the road. This sucker was heavy as well. Someone with help had to be following that truck. Luckily everything was covered by the seller and UPS
Yup, I have. It was last July. Came home from work (husband was away at the time) to find my back door wide open. First thought was for my cats, who thankfully did not leave. Second thought was for my basses. I had my 4003, pedal board, Bergantino HS410 all sitting there in the living room. They were after electronics, though. Stole our flatscreen TV, DVD player, digital camera and a Dyson battery-powered hand vac that didn't work. My 4003 alone was worth more than all of the crap they stole. It was an awful experience, and we got a security system within days after. Luckily, we had stupid thieves. They were caught about a month after. Two men and a woman. Woman was very small and would get in through the windows to let the men in. They had a multi-town little crime spree going on.
Do you have the serial number and sales receipt to provide to your home or renter insurance company? If the bass is worth a lot, at least after the insurance deductible, you can recover some of the loss if your bass is not found. What a bummer. I hope they catch the crook and send them away.
Yeah I don't have my copy but the store I got it from finally switched from all paper documentation to on the computer. So my bass's receipt and serial number is all in storage.
Happened to me too. My kid accidentally broke a window in the front door. I masked it with cardboard and setup a guy to come out the next weekend. On Thursday, my laptop, bag, charger, carved wooden staff, and change jar were gone and the cardboard was ripped off.

The reason he stole your bass, and nothing else, is that it is easy to transport, and dump for a few bucks. It is also possible that whoever took the bass knew it was there. Either he went snooping, and saw it through the sliding door (which is, itself, an easy entry-point in most cases), or he saw you carrying it at some point. It may sound paranoid, but it does happen. People see you carrying valuables, or they see boxes in the trash, and make note of it. This happens a lot after Christmas, in particular. We get more burglary reports then, than any other time of year.
In the meantime, I would either find a way to secure the door better, or get any other valuables out of that room. Chances are your burglar will try to come back, and see if he can get anything else to sell. Also, in the future, try to be discreet about what you own. I often load up from my garage, and I break down the boxes for my electronics so that you can't see what they are for.
Hopefully you can get something going here. As someone else mentioned, it is probably someone looking for some quick money, so pawn shops are a good start for your search.

At my first home home we were burglarized, as were many in my neighborhood. It turned out to be a three brothers that were junkies, and well known be local law enforcement. Because my wife and I kept serial numbers and boxes from stuff like ipads and gaming consoles, they had an easy case to prosecute.
The feeling is horrible though. We had to clean up some strangers muddy foot prints from our home, as well as finger print dusting all over the house. We never quite felt comfortable again.
The one thing that angered me most was that they let my dog out of our fenced in yard. He is a rescued beagle, and he wound up scared half to death and in a local creek. Some kids found him and brought him home. It broke my heart to see him so scared. I don't know what I would have done if he got hit by a car or lost for good, but it would have been bad. You can steal my iPad, but leave my dog alone.

This is why I hope you have renter's insurance. You should ALWAYS have it. If you don't have it now, get it.
In addition to the police report, make a claim under the renter's policy.
I feel your pain. Our place got broken into a few years ago, and they stole my bass and guitar among other things. We went through the usual channels (police, pawn shops, craigslist, etc.) but never found my stuff. You should still go through the regular channels, of course, but don't get your hopes up too high. We got ADT after that, and I think the ADT stickers/signs on the house are probably enough to fend off any would-be thieves. Having the security system at least gives me a bit more peace of mind.
I hold onto the hope that one day those f***ing scumbag crooks will break into the wrong house and find themselves either staring down the barrel of a gun or the gaping maw of a big angry dog.

Lucky for me none of my music gear was touched. The guys took all small electronic stuff that could be sold quick for dope.
I had a early 70's Jazz and my expensive golf clubs stolen out of my truck a few years back. I was a dumbass for leaving them in the truck (accident) and next morning they were gone.
The good news? Insurance more than covered the lost items. It sucked, but I came out even/a bit ahead.

That sucks.. It never happened to me with a bass .. but I know the pain.. What kind of bass was it?
I had my apartment burgled while in grad school. They left my instruments but took electronics and my house-mate's impressive liquor supply. My microwave ended up at a nearby pawn shop, which had a policy of sending a list of serial numbers to the police every day. So I got it back after making a "statement" at the police station. They caught the burglars.
It was a 60th anniversary standard fender p bass. It was unusually amazing for a mim fender.
