Break-up lines

Plans don't make your insticts what they are, genes/evolution do(es). All creatures were born with the very basic 'must live on, must have off spring' and sex is how that happens so that is a survival instict-to have sex. You are born with that insticnt, you don't develop that insticnt form decideing if you want to have a child or not, it is too ingrained in humans to change over teh course of one mans life. If you adopt, and your children do, and theirs...eventually you will start having a family line that doesn't want to have sex-desexalution I beleive it is called :D

I think that all makes sense, if not...oh well I have better things to do then think about not having sex.......

*I wonder if she is going to call tonight, or I'll have to wait til tomorrow.* ;) ;) (seriously though at the moment we are just friends.......I think :eyebrow: )

Incorrect.
It is the nature of the male to impregnate as many females as possible.
It is the nature of the female to seek a male who will stick around and protect the young.

You can't prove either of the above posts. Innate/Biological versus learned. Men have an instinct to have sex - who is to say that it is to do with impregnating women? Obviously one leads to the other and the purpose of one is to lead to the other but proving that men actually want to impregnate women, versus just having sex with them, is something you can't show. Nor is it possible with today's ethics to show that the male "needs" are biological or innate. For all we know they and the female counter-action may be completely learnt.

And how would adopting lead to a loss of sexual desire? Just read evolution/Darwin's theory to see how that isn't possible.

My desire to adopt has nothing to do with my sex drive. I still like sex and want to find a sex partner; I just see that there are too many children who need a home.

My desire to adopt shows that these theories are not very solid.

As for why there are more men than women looking for one night stands, I blame that on social contructs which are not related to any absolute human nature. The ratio of guys: girls who look for casual sex is getting closer to 1 as these social contructs and double standards are being removed.

Im with Gia on this.

Most differences in male and female behavior I believe are tied into social constructs and traditional gender roles as society portrays them. Only real exceptions I see are that a man is not going to have PMS on a monthly cycle and will never have to endure the burden of carrying a child for 9 months and then nursing it. Those are very minor however in the grand scheme of things.

.

Nick, we're so correct :D

You just completly contradicted yourself with this post.

Well, you're all for how the theory is not true, and blame it upon society. Then you go to say that as the constructs of it are relenquished, that we're all for casual sex (which is pratically the Ladder Theory in 2 words). And in that sense, you contradicted yourself. Once the constructs are lifted, what is let if society is not pointing us in any direction? Instinct.

Who says its not reinforced behaviour? By having sex more often, women are getting not only the physical but emotional benefits as well. Ask the majority of pre-legal girls who have sex if its pleasurable, they will say no. Asked why they do it, they answer "to be cool", or "to keep my boyfriend". Even if you remove stigmas to make it such that women are able to have one-night stands more often without negative societal consequences, that doesn't mean they're going to do it for their own direct benefit. And even if they do, who's to say that its because of anything beyond reinforced fun?

Essentially, there are many more forces at work on human behaviour than just innate predispositions and society.

It very well could be. But if you ask the same amount of legal females the same question, I bet that'd turn the tides a bit.
I don't mean to play devil's advocate so much, but I think people should read into it. Not really having to take it to heart and support it, but see how in even some cases it's dead on.

I'm very sure that as women mature that they learn to appreciate sex more. ;) Women reach sexual maturity at illegal age, hence they should technically be 'ready' at a same age. However, as I pointed out before, this is not the case for the majority. Moreover, it is commonly believed that women are most wanting of sex somewhere between 30 and 40 - often more than 20 years after their highest fertility years. To me, that doesn't make sense. If both men and women were instinctually desiring sex the same amount, which was supposed to be purely for procreation then wouldn't they want it more at the most fertile ages?

Cause we're young and want to experience the world and go to school and become a doctor or something and not be a full-time mom and have to take care of a kid in our prime years.

I don't know...

That doesn't explain why you don't want sex. Wouldn't "experiencing the world" involve "experiencing people" anyway? Nevertheess, those are societal influences - they aren't things that our ancient ancestors had to deal with. If instict theory were correct, then you would have to repress your sexual desires to accomplish the aforementioned goals. If that were the case, why are females better at doing so than men?

I didnt say we are all for casual sex.

Im not, and I know a lot of people who arent. I just said that guys and girls are just as driven behind the rules society puts up. There is a difference.
