Double Bass Brian Bromberg

Hi!
I want to know how to get that stringy Brian Bromberg bass sound. I have learned his playing style but his 1700's bass just sound totally different so is there any effects or pedals what would help me to get that sound out?

I think this is largely in his hands, and bass.

Get some Spirocore Weich strings, but them as low as they can go, work on your left hand for nice sustain, practice a lot.

Sarcasm alert....but to the OP - seriously if you think that pedals or effects are going to get you closer, then you need to spend more time on technique!

Ahh ok I understud. But I get very similar sound out but there is missing something! Maybe I should get lower strings... I now get like Rufus Reid

Actually you need a Boss heavy metal pedal with a super flanger. Run that through a an Ampeg SVT head and a 8 x 10 cab. and you've got it!

Seriously, the best thing you can do is experiment with strings, right hand technique, pick-ups and record your progress. Once you start hearing the sound you want on the playback you'll know what works.

Brian uses Weichs, but you're still going to sound like you. Brian's sound is in his hands.

Brian's had that sound since he was seventeen. He had
that sound before he knew the notes on the bass.
Its not as much about strings and action and bass,
as it is about YOUR sound. All of your influences and what
you hear in your head make up "your" sound. Trust me, it
would be very hard for Brian to imitate you.

there was a thread a while ago where someone described playing Bromberg's bass. I think it was in the thread about the "bromberg" bass Lemur music sells.

According to the poster, Bromberg's bass had the flattest fingerboard he had ever seen on a double bass, a very straight neck with very little "scoop" in the fingerboard, and very low action. At least I think that's what he said. It makes sense--Bromberg is a wonderful, phenomenal player, but it sounds to me--and I could be wrong--that he plays a bass set up for maximum pizz facility at the expense of bowability and acoustic volume. A perfectly reasonable choice, and he gets great results from it
