Brice Fanned Fret Five String.

:eek:

And for only $799. Hopefully they're shifting the way Agile has and we'll start seeing more unique models like this (maybe some 4 bangers too?).

Looks cool but the specs must me messed up.
I know the Brice's 5's always have tight string spacing but what is this?

Wider string spacing for more comfortable play: Width of the neck at the nut is 1 3/4". String spacing it the bridge is 2 9/16"

2.5625= .5125 = 13 mm

3.5625 would be about 18mm

I don't think you could get individual saddle bridges that close. It looks around 18

It would be a nice bass to try a fan fret without buying a Dingwall

Your math is fine, except that you should divide the spacing at the bridge (2 9/16") by 4, since there are four spaces between the strings. That brings the string to string spacing to a little over 16mm.

Even if the bass-side scale is 35", the multiscale design would still help to make tension across all strings more consistent... Wouldn't it?

I have an AB1, the B string (37") has way more tension on it than a normal 34" or 35" scale bass. So I don't see how the B being 35" will get that high tension which focuses the sound of the B string, takes the flop out and allows you to dig in on it just like any other string on the bass.
So maybe there is some benefit, but not the maximum benefit I would say.

Maybe you should ask Sheldon how his SuperJ and SuperP can work with only a 35" B string.

I know those are only 35", there is a difference in the B strings of those and the 37" models. The idea of multiscale can be applied to any scale length. It just seems like Sheldon figured out the optmal length for benefiting a B string is 37". I would suggest that the SuperJ and Super P are to bring in another demgraphic of buyers. Those basses are SEXY for sure. I am not saying there is a complete world of diffence, it is subtle.
This Brice is probably a decent way into the world of fan-frets. It will have more even tension across the strings than parallel fret basses. Obviously it won't be a Dingwall, but for $800 it seems neat. I just wonder why they didn't make it the 37" since they are referencing the AB models (albeit in backwards manner).
