Trace Elliot was originally based in Britain. Then, the brand was bought by Peavey a few years ago.

I think Americans dominate as far as building good bass cabinets, but it's still a tough call for me to decide a clear winner for amps. Sooo many good ones on both sides of the pond...

Well, the makers of my heads and cabs are Ampeg, Mesa and Aguilar, so I'd have to vote for the US. That said, I'd happily rock a Hiwatt if someone wants to front me $4K.:D The Trace stuff I've played has been too bright for my taste.

I use a GK 1001rb and Mesa Powerhouse 1000 cab and I love it.
That being said my back-up head is a PEAVEY BAM which models amps and cabs from around the world quite well.

That being said, If someone said they wanted to give me an Orange head I wouldn't say no.

However for Guitards, British Heads into either British or USA cabs always wins.

Well.....I......sheet.......I'm like some of these rigs myself, split heritage. Damn. Anyways, I pretty much prefer British amp in general, especially in the guitar field. I honestly don't think any U.S. Guitar amp has been able to compete on level with Marshall or Hiwatt, or Matamp or Laney......I mean, sure Marshall's are adapted Fenders, but they aren't the same. America got clean and soul-y blues tone right, Britain got rock and roll amps down pat. However, as for current production guitar amps, I'd have to say U.S. puts out the best clones of those old designs (Metropolis, Germino, Reeves)

ANYWAYS, let's be honest, the best combo is really America+Britain. Marshall Guitar Amps+Sunn Bass Amps. (O)))).

:D

Let's tell, what amps I own now.....

GenzBenz GBE 1200, peavey T-Max, Marshall MB4410, GallienKrueger 200MB (Combo, 25 years old), Ibanez Promethean 5110, MarkBass LM II. Pretty cosmopolitic, isn't it? USA, Europe, Asia, I only miss Australia and Africa to have amps all aound the world! Just ****ing don't tell me where they come from , tell me how they sound! And in theyr unique way they all sound awesome!

It was effective with the Allison engine. It became the greatest fighter of all time with the Merlin. A true Anglo-American masterpiece.

That's a whole other thread waiting to happen...
(Ever heard of the Spitfire? ;))

But, back on topic, it's quite interesting to see how the pros come down on either side. Last summer, I was at a festival in Bilbao, and of the dozen or so bands I payed attention to, all but one or two of the bassists were using Ampeg...
