Broken Finger Recovery time?

Set a keyboard in front of him to play with one hand. Have him learn a bunch of Hammond licks or othe keyboardistic jive. This is a real musical opportunity here. Don’t squander it.

That reminds me of Billy Strange, who broke both hands in a motorcycle accident. Since he couldn't play guitar during the healing process, he spent time learning how to arrange and orchestrate from his neighbor, Henry Mancini. He went on to write arrangements for Frank Sinatra and others. I guess you could call that a lucky break.

Should take 6-8 weeks for bone to heal completely.Possibly faster if young slower if old.Eat some turmeric to help with swelling, alternate heat(promotes blood flow) and cold packs(reduces swelling). l-arginine for better blood flow (vasodilator)to get nutrients to damaged area and a product called Bone Powder to help the bone knit faster. And make sure he does his therapy like clockwork per Doc/therapist .

Thanks for the info. I just bashed up my right hand Wednesday morning in a fall and the index finger around the bottom knuckle is really swelling up and I can't bend it much without a fight. I'm a lefty so basically I can't fret right now.

So our guitarist got in a car accident and the only injury he sustained was a broken index finger on his left hand, third metatarsal. Fortunately, we have no scheduled gigs in the immediate future as we were going to focus on writing some new material, but does anyone have any experience with how long that takes to heal get back up to playing speed?

We are not looking to just get a sub as our LG is something of a savant that would be very hard to replace, plus we're really not that kind of band where we would want to try and gig without a member.

Thank for input.
If it's just the bone and no ligaments were affected then couple months. If ligaments are damaged.... Could take a year or more.

in my 20's I dropped a car hood on my hand and shatter the pinky knuckle and broke the other two bones in half fretting hand
doctor said looked like I used a hatchet :( I borrow above picture to show the damage
they put my pinky in a split that jammed the bones together so it would heal I was in a cast for 6 months and had to work hard to use my pinky to fret notes again :)
