Broken Graphite Neck!

I thought graphite was almost unbreakable - maybe the location of the break is important to note?

Anyone ever break a graphite neck?

(I haven't even broken a wooden one yet)...

Carbon fiber is very, very strong, but not unbreakable. Everything is breakable, one way or another.

Description says something about "before the accident", but no further details.......... I'd bet that this was not a "got knocked off its stand" accident - more like a "Oh my god I just ran over my bass with my car" accident........

I wouldn't think that the location of the break was relevant. My guess is that it was broken in a fairly heavy accident (maybe run over by a car, or an Ampeg 8X10 fell on it) that no bass would have survived. The price seems very high for something so wrecked. If I were considering it, I would contact Rob Green at Status and find out what the chances would be for a successful repair.

It's not his, or at least I don't think so. It's being sold as a 'parts only' bass.

I thought this was a neck-thru. Given the extent of damage, this trainwreck is good for parts only (tuners, pups, etc.) unless Mr. Dorsch can work a miracle or two.

Definitely not mine - but I've been GASsing for a graphite necked bass... Just came across it on eBay & it kinda freaked me out - a broken wooden neck would be easier to repair... I think this thing's only salvageable parts are electronics & hardware...

Here's an idea: Bust off the rest of that headstock, install a Steinberger systm, and make it a headless! Probably not as easy as I make it sound, but might be a cool project idea!

i personally think that it's repairable. i would use a slow setting resin to reglue it and then laminate a few layers of CF cloth over the break and the back of the headstock.

Yes they are breakable... but the beautiful thing is they won't show up on radar!

If Gibson can fix a Thunderbird neck, I bet theres a shop somewhere that can fix that. But I think the price would have to be a lot lower (for me anyway) and I'd have to have a commitment from a shop to fix it and an estimate.

I'd love to know what caused the accident! Pity-thats a sharp looking bass.

But yeah, unless I was JohnK or one of our other DIY gurus, I wouldnt touch that for anything over $100.

IMO, they're asking about 6-7 times too much for it.

I agree. I think the CF material may be mostly intact, and its possibly the epoxy thats damaged...
