From Rotosound Music Strings, it is a set of full-scale bass strings. They were endorsed by Mr. John Entwistle of The Who.

They are vintage, probably from around 1970. Though they are old, they've never been used.

These are actually from the '80s, I used to buy them new. They were a different gauge in the '70s, I believe that E was 102.

Yeah that’s the exact packaging from the 80s.

Oh wow. These were the first DM bass strings I ever bought, and the ones that eventually - along with La Bella DTRs - got me into moving away from Rotos and Superwounds. I don't even want to think about how long ago that was.

Now, if I could find these in sealed condition I might be tempted to buy them.

I'm fairly certain that this is the set that came stock on my '70 Les Paul Bass, and would love to try them just to hear how Gibson envisioned the sound of that instrument at the time.

actually, the real gauge of the set RS66LD is still the "60's/70's" one, 48-63-82-102, measured with a caliber in the 80's they switched to the "simple" 45-65-80-105" to match the "standard" gauges of other brands.

fun fact: the Billy Sheehan set, which is labelled with a G-43, has actually a .045 G string .
also, the Jazz77 sets both have a "mislabelled" G string: the 45-105 set has a 50 G, the 50-110 has a 55G.

back in the days the gauges were "odd", like the "71 D" in the Fender 850 set, or many La Bella's sets (ex: 52-73-95-110), not to talk about the previous roundwounds, with really odd sets and gauges.
a standard thing was the bigger G string, like the 55 used by Fender.

I lived on those strings. At the time, they were America's answer to Rotos. They were less expensive, and lasted longer. Never went back to Rotosounds.
