Double Bass bromberg

Somebody introduced me to him at NAMM this year. I told him I recognized his name, never heard any of his playing, but knew for some reason I should be bowing down to him. He joked about it, seemed like a really nice and humble dude. This is the first time I actually heard him. Damn!!!

I don't know who's seen this or what, and it won't be to everyone's taste but holy @(*#.

Hey!!! I was there! you can almost see my head in the bottom left corner.

I would recommend taking a listen to his WoodII album... no matter how many times I listen to him... I am left scratching my head trying to figure out what he is doing... it is mesmerizing to see and hear him play. If you ever get a chance to see him... GO! Acoustic or Electric.

He was on a Rob Mullins album called Jazz Jazz recorded in the late '80s on the long defunct Nova label. The entire album is jaw dropping. It's probably some of his best, most astonishing playing. Mullins tears it up too. If you can find a copy, jump on it.

I bought the latest Chris Botti album, "Italia," for my mother-in-law for Christmas. She had it on after we unwrapped our gifts, and this version of "The Way You Look Tonight" came on. The bass was just killin', the sound, the feel, the note choices, everything; I thought "I have to go see who this is--some LA dude, no doubt; probably John Clayton or Bob Hurst or Dareck Oles." Got to looking at the liner notes--there was Christian McBride on one track, there was James Genus on another, there was Jimmie Johnson on another. But the hard-swinging mofo responsible for the track in question? Brian Bromberg.

I've had that experience with him more than once before: I think I know what he sounds like and what to expect from his playing, and then he shows he can also fill any niche he needs to, from a sound standpoint or a chops/notes standpoint. He's something else!
