That’s rad! I find it interesting you followed baseball without having a team. That takes some dedication.

Actually, now that I think about it I can tell you exactly how it came about. You ready?

In 1969, we got the Montreal Expos in Canada. That was big deal up here. I watched a number of Expos games, and never really became a fan of them. BUT, I really liked the Pittsburgh Pirates. I thought Roberto Clemente was a rock star. Liked Manny Sanguillen and Willie Stargell a lot too. So when they played Baltimore in the World Series, I was a Pittsburgh fan. But to get to the World Series, the Orioles beat the A's. That's where I got to learn about Campaneris and the boys. So I already didn't like the Orioles - because my uncle liked them... my Uncle and I were super close then (still are today), and we still put the screws to each other by cheering for different teams. So, he liked the Orioles - and loved Boog Powell (side note here, you really need to take in a game at Camden Yards... and visit the BBQ in right field for a Double Boog BBQ sandwich)... but I digress - and I therefore had to hate them, which was easy because I liked the the guys on the A's. At that time I really liked shortstops - likely because Snoopy played shortstop - but I digress.

Because of all that, I was paying close attention to Oakland in 1972. And when Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh in the 1972 NL Championship Series, of course I was an Oakland fan for the World Series, especially since my Uncle liked the Reds, and they beat the Pirates. The A's won, and I was sold after that...

Funny, with a little thought I can remember all that as clear as day. Can't remember what I had for dinner last night, though...
