Broughton Audio Super Thread

Just curious.
On the latest version of the MESSENGER (V2+) How many people use the foot switch mute feature vs the bypass? I initially left it as it arrived (footswitch bypass) but have since changed it to mute when stomped on.

Another thought
While I moved my LPF/HPF to a smaller board, I would really love it if that foot switch would have a similar option and be able to mute instead of bypass (since I leave it on). - this would probably pertain to the RFE as well.

Yeah. I’m a professional bailer. Full geared up. Just bruised and sprained everything.
Got my 500 back yesterday after a weird grounding problem I couldn’t figure out. Very happy to have it back. Was riding it yesterday.
So you're already doing better? Bad timing for the site to go down for sure, definitely can keep you busy

Bypass for home use, Mute if I play out. To be able to bypass and get the balanced line still is amazingly clear, it's also better to run it in Bypass mode if you want the most headroom for receiving line levels (for post preamp headphones tap), when you're not pushing that eq and filters you get a little bit more power

I can’t imagine a scenario in which one would want to bypass it. The only reason I was bypassing it was so I could A/B compare it when I was dialing the tone in. Unless you want to have a different EQ setting you could switch in and out for soloing or scoop the mids for slapping on certain songs or something like that.

So . . . I guess I can imagine a scenario.

Yeah the only reason I could ever think of is you want to defeat the Messenger to engage another pre such as a SV Pre or Fliptop. But I am more a " get it to sound good and let's play" type of guy.

Now if you were using it for DB you would definitely want the mute. My other pre is a Radial that is designed to go at the beginning of your board and has a mute.

Only messenger ive used as a preamp was the first model for the boost. I personally use the newest model as a headphone amp and DI, in which case defeating the EQ is amazing, all my modeling comes from what's in front of the pedal. Using it as a standalone preamp for me has been just a hifi like filter at best, good for boosting line levels, but not enough color to just use it. I did use it for a travel practice pedal before I got a SLO. I do miss the boost on the first retention though, that transformer tube preamps

Samesies. Which is ultimately why I sold it. I didn’t really use the functionality of it except for its headphone amp and DI, of which I had others. If I didn’t also have an RFE, I would have used it for the HPF/LPF, which I would always leave on.

Crashed dreams. Cuts right through the mix. Dirty as hell and hits hard.

Dream crasher?
Black and blue beard?
Swollen ankle?
I couldn’t like this more than once but I’d like to.

probably had a Swollen Pickle in the fx right before the loop.
But that’s pure conjecture on my part.

I use it at the end of a small board w/Tuner/Terraformer/SV-Pre/Silver Deluxe so I may just keep it as a bypass, I might need to tweak settings on the tone stacks and I prefer to bypass the Messenger when I do that. Mute is a great option though.

Hooooh... I hope it at least comes with dipping sauce and/or garlic bread.
