I’m fact, at least three of my basses have been modified for larger strings over the years and none of them have any issues going back to standard gauges.

IMHO If you have the EQ, and L+HPF covered already, and don’t need a DI, etc, I wouldn’t worry about the Messenger.

It’s a spectacular clean preamp, but won’t bring as much to the party if you don’t need the other features.

I didn't have that stuff so this was a total sonic shift. I agree , maybe a little redundant If you already have the components.
