Broughton Audio Super Thread

There's some chance you'll hear nasty pops from your amp if you unplug the power socket of any pedal, even if the pedal is off, and weirdly enough even if you're signal chain is muted upfront on your signal chain (by a tuner for instance). Either if it's a zap or a pop, not sure it's something great for the amp, would recommend unplugging power-amp before any pedal-chain modification. Guess muting upfront the amp would work as well.

As for SV-Pre settings, using the most shared setting and found a low-mid hefty overdrive or boost before (Amptweaker Tightdrive JR and LBA Nuvision atm) definitely helps getting more presence. Deeper lows are quite something with the Low switch on the left and a part of what i'm looking when i play with my mates. If the SV-Pre's off, using a RFE and a MBD-2 with Depth knob near noon to get these huge lows. But you're right, it can easily get out of control. There are different options to prevent muddiness, hpf, slight compression, and some pedals like the Electrofoods Germ Warfare, which tightens deeper lows and helps cutting as well.

More progress...added a number of pedals from the Archive...anyone know the exact font @Azure Skies uses for the Broughton logo? I've made a crude version of it by tracing a graphic in Illustrator but would love to use an actual font...

I had weird noise issues in conjunction with my SV-Pre. I think I asked for help in this thread and the Damnation Audio discussion as I at first thought it was the MBD-2 I had just got. Turned out it was the SV-Pre not liking what was going on on my board. It didn't react at all to different positions near / over the PSU (TrueTone CS6), and when I also turned on the Joshwah, all noise disappeared immediately. Joshwah off? High-pitched hiss.

After loads of testing the two culprits were identified:

1) My wireless (Sennheiser XSW-D), both the sender and the receiver
2) Patch cables

When rebuilding the board and trying out different cables (EBS “High Performance” rather than the regular ones) it turned out it really was mostly the patch cables. Once I replaced them with the better shielded kind, most of the noise was gone. There’s still SOME additional hiss when I use my wireless, but it’s hardly noticeable now – too much would I record stuff, but no issue when playing live.
Yeah, I have a hard time spending significant amounts of money on utility things like power supplies, cables, etc. But it really does make a difference. My whole set up immediately sounded better once I got my Cioks DC7. The main culprit was usually my SV pre, even with good EBS patch cables. But the Cioks seemed to tame most of the unwanted noise. Even in my old house with ungrounded wiring where I practice.

Ha ha, yeah...not sure I'll ever get them all but happy to keep trying. Is there a running list of all the pedals (preferably a living doc like in Google)? If not, want to volunteer to put one together based on your knowledge? ;-)

I could certainly name a bunch I don’t see on there. I think It’s pretty cool. It’s kinda like virtually possessing them.

In your browser right click the text, click "inspect" or something similar (depends on the browser) and look up the font in the styling attributes. Can't get more accurate than that ;)

FYI, the website uses no letter spacing, but I'm pretty sure the printing on the pedals has a little negative letter spacing to bring them together a bit.

Yep, I did that but my issue was I didn't read all the way to the end of the long wfont code string ha ha d'oh! "font-family:wfont_4b9583_3a45feadaf0d4a46b170acdd384024b3,wf_3a45feadaf0d4a46b170acdd3,orig_nyala"

Have you ever been to The Windy City? You should visit, that way, the next time something is stuck there, you can envision where it’s hanging out. There is comfort in that.
I have, as it happens. My girlfriend lived there for a long time and she took me for vacations there before the world ended. It was the first time I'd ever been in a proper large city. I've also never seen the ocean, so the lakeshore is the closest I've ever been to experiencing an ocean. It was all really nice to experience, just being a small thing in a big city. I'd almost live there, if I didn't know a little better...
