Broughton Audio Super Thread

After using all four, I've found to rank them (for myself) in this order, Omni, Monocomp, Apex, Monocle - I can get the Omni to pretty much act like any of the other 3, only a tiny bit of the monocomp is untouchable, with my setup at least. It still has a color that nothing else I have can do.

I'm also not a compressor guy, but the 76CB is my second favorite to the O M N I.

I rank them, Omnicomp, Monocomp, Cali. Totally agree with @labeledbass regarding the versatility of the Omnicomp. I view the Apex as being completely different and un-rankable... suffice it to say that it will never leave the front end of my board, and it will never be turned off. The Apex is the king of whatever it is.

Finally had some time to put into the Monocomp and wow another fine piece of gear. Yes, it gets super squishy but I was really impressed with the versatility of the tone control. You can dial it in super beefy. This is a big step up from the Monocle. Definitely not as sexy as the Omni, but I was surprised at how thick and fat you could get the Monocomp. It really is apples and oranges trying to compare the two. Will need to do some side by sides with the APEX too.

For the band I was in from 2014-2020, I always knew about 45 songs by heart. Now, in the absence of any regular practice with a group, I like to keep at least a couple of tunes nimbly in my brain. For almost two years, I’ve been regularly playing along to Lido Shuffle and Ramble On. Played many times, with many different basses, very fun tunes. Tonight I played them with my Alembic Epic, neck PU > Omnicomp (significant compression happening) > Super Stack (bass=8 mid=10 treble=5) > Apex (hard limiter hot peaks only).
My bass sounded like a studio mastered track, from Cherokee Studios in the 80’s. It was transcendent. I also believe I played it with more groove than I’m capable of. It was really freakin cool.

My normal breakfast is just porridge, smoothie and coffee, but sometimes its pork sausages.

Just fired up my Omnicomp for the first time. It's really awesome, even without much fiddling. I cranked the threshold, fine-tuned the blend and gain and left the other controls around noon. Sounds really thick and thumpy. Really nice addition to the LA-1A with it's own tone and features.

When I succumbed to the peer pressure and ordered the Omni, I assumed it was going to play second fiddle. But for now I think both deserve their place on the board.
