Broughton Audio Super Thread

My Omni came on Saturday, but oddly enough I was not home and I honestly didn't expect it to arrive so early. The reception has been a little shakey, but I do think I like it more than the Cali 76CB. The Cali sounds very crisp and hi fi, but I think the Omni's warmth lends more of a punch. I chalk the shakiness up to me not really being a compressor guy.

I'm really good at figuring out the settings I like on pedals and gear and synths. Compressors... I just kinda play and anxiously turn knobs until I get to the point of 'quit while I'm ahead'
@MuthaFunk had a great post on how to set up a compressor a few weeks ago. Sticky worthy.

My O M N I is on its way to Scuba. Expect a review soon!
After using all four, I've found to rank them (for myself) in this order, Omni, Monocomp, Apex, Monocle - I can get the Omni to pretty much act like any of the other 3, only a tiny bit of the monocomp is untouchable, with my setup at least. It still has a color that nothing else I have can do.

None of this helps my need for reduction of compressors though.. all of them seem to still have a place one way or the other

Back when I was a newbie, and still responded to a question like, "what's the deal with effects on bass, I don't get it?" one of the points I used to make was how an effect, many different effects in fact, can change your technique. Specifically, the nature of my right hand, and how I pluck, brush, or thwak the string. An effect can promote sounds and riffs that are only possible, because of how I adjust my touch. I find it fun and inspiring.
So, while I have yet to really hear the Omnicomp at a pungent volume and discern the tonal contributions, my initial noodling reminded me of benefit of having access to Attack and Decay times. The Attack and Decay adjustments bring in a whole 'nuther level of variation in how the OC interprets your touch, leading me to alter my touch. I find it fun and inspiring.

I'm also not a compressor guy, but the 76CB is my second favorite to the O M N I.
