I think the big test of the Sonoran will be how quickly it gets dirty. The nice thing about the amp, with acknowledgement that this is based on the old 400, not really the new B800D, is that you can get a huge clean tone out of it.

Have you no drawers or shelves? For me it’s about flavors. I’m absolutely maxed out when it comes to preamps of the Fender, Ampeg, Hiwatt, Traynor, and Alembic variants. Mesa is a territory I’ve yet to explore, in genuine amps or emulations. So I’m feeling spiffy about the late score this morning.

Same here - I absolutely LOVE all of the different preamp flavors, and I've had a few based on the 400 (which itself is based on the Fender TMB tone stack, which I love), so really looking forward to trying this one.

I have 20-ish preamp pedals right now, always room for at least 1 (or 2, or 3 ..) more!

Id imagine its close to this. "Pull" switches = toggles on the pedal. I love anything that strays from the standard -15/+15 db filter ranges as well. Can't wait

"The BASS 400™ uses traditional type tone controls which have been especially tailored for bass, and whose ranges can be extended by use of the Pull Shift switches. The Treble control, when set high, becomes the most powerful of the three. At settings of 7 and above it will minimize the effect of the Bass and Middle, but they will become the stronger controls when the Treble is below 5. Most players find a “sweet spot” between 4 and 7 where the tonal balance is just right for them. Pulling out the Treble Shift alters its frequency center-point downward, toward the upper mid-range. (And since there is more musical energy
at these frequencies, your amp will seem to get a little louder as well.) Using either Bright switch injects an extra dose of high treble.
The Bass Control is wide ranging and its power can be boosted by using the Pull Shift. Josh told me that :

Canada Post is temporarily not able to ship to some EU countries, including France. Apparently these countries are requiring an upfront duty on the shipper, and there isn't a system in place to pay that with Canada Post.

I have no drawers or shelves. I cannot afford to have money tied up in gear that sits in a drawer or on a shelf; if I'm not actively using it, I sell or trade it. And I don't have the space for a collection of pedals anyway: I can barely fit my double bass and my bicycle in my NYC apartment. But I do have two pedalboards so that leaves me with more than enough pedals to cover my use cases

This is how I feel and THE BEST live bass tone I ever experienced at a show was a Bass 400 into a beat up Ampeg 810. I was about 6 feet away. I still dream about it…. band was Traindodge.

I wholly understand the space limitations. But, double bass vs. 300 pedals? Priorities…….

Congrats, all ye who scored. The Bass 400+ always seemed to have a lot to tweak, then Mesa released the Basis M-2000. That amp was like flipping switches in an analog cockpit.

Holding myself out for a deal on a Dicosimo 800RB one of these days, although I can just run FX Send on my GK Legacy for headphone rehearsals and accomplish the same/better thing. Mainly looking for an excuse to build a full ampless board

Got the last 1! Some sort of kismet after i missed the sunray by messing around with posting about inventory... This time: Woke up a 4am... no, can't do it, there's no Paypal pay in 4 anymore.... woke up at 7am to see that there was one left. I knew what I had to do. Excited!

Hmm, yes and no. The Sonoran needs to be placed in context:

1. It follows the release of numerous other Broughton preamp and amp-in-a-box pedals, including two back-to-back Scorpion Deluxe drops. Josh is competing against himself here.
2. Most players only need one or maybe two preamps. It's not an effect where players will have five or six on a board.
3. Batch sizes are bigger than they used to be.
4. Releases are more frequent than they used to be. Customers only have so much money.
5. It is housed in a landscape-oriented 1590BB enclosure. Customers only have so much room on their boards.
6. The Sonoran is an usually expensive Broughton pedal. In fact, I think it is the most expensive Broughton pedal to date (excluding lunch box preamps, rack preamps, etc. since those are not pedals).
7. It still sold out in about three hours.

That said, I am still surprised it didn't sell out in minutes. Josh's tube circuits are extraordinary--there is a reason the Super Watt, Quicksilver, and Sunray have the reputations they do--and this is the first 1590BB preamp pedal to employ a tube since the Archetype Preamp Pedal of the very early days. (The Super Stack is technically a tube boost, and the Super Watt is a 125B.)

Very true on the number of preamps.
I've reached to the point of more preamps than boards. Then there's layout issues and flow. On my gig board Super Watt>Mess Jr. Scorpion Deluxe wouldn't replace the Mess JR no DI Or filters. Studio One is my best option filters,DI, and then remove SBM from the board.

My large pedalboard End of chain definitely needs a DI so replacing either of my current options wouldn't happen.

In an ideal world I'd create a board with end of Sonoran>Mess JR. Sure to be killer.

But as it stands now either the Genzler Magellan Pre-amp or Subway Bass preamp plus DI is going onto a small pedalboard to leave on top of my amp.

Also, 800D will be obtained before the end of the year. So there's that also. A pedal close to the half price of the Head . 800D wins. But if there's a second batch it my beat down my will power. Would love to hear if there's any similarities between the Sonoran & Subway plus. Obviously without the tube warmth.
