Thanks DS1 but I don't know the brand that Kevin puts on his custom Brutes so a search at this point would be fruitless. Maybe you misread my post but what I was asking was what brand did Kevin use and did Hipshot or another brand make a replacement for it. Hipshot has many to choose from but you got to know the replacement brand to match.

The Hipshot Ultralight Tuners - HB6Y - 3/8" are a perfect fit replacement on the Brutes. I know your Brute is a lot more "custom" than a standard one, but I'm guessing Kevin would stick with the 3/8" . . . that's what he uses on the US models as well.

Excuse me if these questions have been answered already. I did wade through quite a few of the posts in these two threads, but not all of them.

I'm finding myself increasingly interested in the MJX-5; might have to take the plunge. Weight is a big issue for me; how is the weight on these? Anyone actually weighed theirs?

Also, an early post mentioned these were basswood, which is typically an ash/alder substitute. There's an ebay seller who's claiming the new ones he's getting are nato, which I think is usually used as a mahogany substitute. Two very different sonic characters. So have they changed the body material on the newer ones, or is one (or both) of those pieces of information wrong? Thanks

There was some degree of disagreement as to the body wood of the Brute a year or two ago. IIRC, Kevin, or anyone else affiliated with the Brute line, state that they have ALWAYS been made with nato wood. The single-cuts are an ash body. As to weight, my JJX-5 weighs in a hair under 9.5 pounds. Maybe add a few ounces for the larger MM pup. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it appears that Hipshot may not make the DropD option with the ultralights. I have sent an email to Hipshot to get a definitive answer.

I believe they do in fact make a version for ultralights.

If I am reading your question right, no. They will have the J/MM pickups with coil tap switch on all the basses.

My KXB-5 Build update...
I just spoke with Kevin on the phone and all I can say is what a great guy to deal with. We went over specs for my bass and nailed down some things so we are on lock with my build. To add, he asked if he could call me? I really appreciate the concern and personal attention and attention to detail that I'm getting for my bass. This is not my first Brubaker purchase but it is my first USA Brubaker purchase and it will not be the last. All I can say is wow. I am so happy that I'm with Brubaker and these basses sound killer. Nothing else on the market sounds like them.

No... really... why doesn't anyone listen to me. The Brutes are DAYS away.

It depends on the arrangement with your dealer, I'd give a call and ask if I were you. These basses will be heavily QC'ed at Brubaker to make sure nothing goes wrong, so they don't really need another QC.
