Brubaker Brute Club, Part 2

Have you guys seen the JJX on youtube that was modded with Carvin SKB JB pickups and an ACG pre? That bass sounds very good. Brutes are once again a perfect platform for pickup and pre mods.

Just did a clinic with the new singlecut and a natural ash body. A great bass, very easy to play with a great sound. A bonus was the Brubaker design which puts the fingerboard a little closer to the center of your body. It was a 35" scale that felt like a 32" scale-neat trick that makes for a very comfortable bass.
I was very impressed!

a2zbassman I think you may be right. My spider senses are tingling and they say Brubaker Brute 6 string.

Since I will end up owning two brutes with J/MM configs, I will hold on the six string version. I would however add a third to complete a trinity and it would have to be a fretless. I heard rumors about that happening and with the SC's already available with the rosewood board I can see that happening concurrent with a 6 string version. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for production, just skip the portion where frets are added. Question is will lines be provided?

Hi Roy,
I thought they were going with a 34" scale on the Brutes.

Oops! My bad, it is a 34".
When I was talking with Tom I mentioned the interest in a 6er and he said that it's likely a Lefty version of the single cut will appear before then. He added that they would probably only want to do 1 6 string model and was curious as to what features everyone would want. I would personally prefer a single cut with 2 humbuckers with switchable single coil /staggered/series/parallel ala Bartolini. Anybody got other thoughts? This might happen in 2013 from what I understand.

Yes, a 6er just as you described it . . . make it as near the US models as possible, at a Brute price :D prefect!!

Just like to add that it'd be nice to stick with the common EMG 45, 4.5", sizing as there seem to be more available upgrade options with that size. For instance, I just put a set of Tesla Corona's in the cheap Schecter 6er that I recently picked up to try out. Those, with a Bart NTMB sound amazing! Also tried some Lace Bass Bars, with a NTMB pre, on a 5er recently and those too would come in the 4.5" for a 6er. Those blew me away!! Although they are probably no cheaper then Bart pups. Just stay away from odd sizing like the mk1's and such, maybe they don't even make a 6er version, but you get my meaning. Anyway, more of my 2 cents.

Edit: Not that the stock pups and pre wouldn't sound awesome and be sufficient. Just saying it might be nice to have as many options of upgrading if the need arose. I have yet to own a made over seas bass that I haven't upgraded in one way or another . . . yes, I'm one of those guys. :rollno: :D

I want a brute fretless model and want to see the JJX turned into a brute JB model. Then I would end up owning a MJX-5, MJX5-SC, Brute fretless and a Brute BBJB5 (Brubaker Brute Jazz Bass 5). Four Brutes to make my Brute experience complete. I wouldn't care if nato were used for the JB body as it sounds good on the JJX and MJX models. Surely some of the SC's could be made fretless without too much of a production change. Instead of adding frets, at that stage a veneer or wood putty could be added instead of frets. I believe the fretless is already in the working. A brubaker brute jb 5 with that big. wide flat maple board would look awesome, and add the brubaker JB headstock. Am I the only one that can see this?

Guys I'm going down the road less travelled for pickup upgrades for my Brutes. I've decided to get the J/MM set from Reed James. Theres a demo of the set on youtube where they are in a Lakland bass (55-94?) with the same pickup config. To me they sound good and I'll have something that not every other bass player is using. Not cheap though. Still have not decided on the pre but I'm leaning towards the Aggie OBP 3. I like aggressive sounding basses.

saw a pic of Roy with the SC at the kickoff at Corner Music. The SC in natural in very pretty. The wooden access cover is tasty as well. back of the neck is black satin.
