Brubaker Brute Club, Part 2

You think so? I see a 6 string version of one or both the current models before they add another model. But, for me personally, I'd like to see both the current ones offered with a soapbar pups option before they do anything else. ( . . . is anybody listening? . . . . );)

Wow that would be killer a soapbar version brute 5 and 6 string. That would make a crazy competion with the MTD ZX models at a friendly price range.

I felt the same way and still do. I based my prediction for 2014. Tom mentioned 2013 so there is stilll hope for a Brute Jazz Bass. The reason I mention it is that Kevins' custom Jazz basses have been discovered to be the shiznit at Winter NAMM 2012 and there was a bidding war on a partucular White JB that everyone wanted. Therefore I can see how a redoing of the JJX into a Jazz Bass clone would work and bring that awesomeness to those of us who happen to be Jazz Bass guys, as I am but can't afford a USA made Custom Brubaker. He could keep the same electronics, wood, HW, but just fashion a JB body and headstock. If he had offered his origninal Brutes with soaps. I would have sent him my bass to Brubakerize it with top of the line Bart pickups and pre, just like his custom and extreme models. When I get my Brute single cut, my MJX-5 is a candidate for Barts but I'm going to opt and choose an aggie OBP3 pre. I'm excited about the possibilities. Has anyone heard Bart Pickups with an aggie OPB3 pre? That right there is my sound. It took me until now to figure out what I wanted and liked and this combo will keep the aggressive nature of the Brute as well.

1. Six string version(s)
2. Brute Jazz Bass
3. Fretless Brute
4. Brutes with soaps besides the headless.
5. Custom shop Brute options (configure your own Brute)

What else could there be?

When I think of the many options there could be for a Brute the MTD Z would not even be in my frame of reference. LOL!!!!

Have your friend contact Donovan at fretspot.com He's a bass player as well as a Brubaker Brute dealer and a really good guy. I'm sure he could provide your friend with the dimensions.

Philly, I like your reasoning behind the Jazz series. I'm a JB guy through and through myself. I mean there is a good reason I kept my JJX and sold my MJX. No doubt the MJX had a fuller sound, but the Barts also were a little dark sounding . . . And maybe thats because I went with the wrong pre when I upgraded , the Audere 4-band, and should have gone Bart or Aggie instead??? Anyway, my Delano loaded JJX still blows me away when I pull it out and plug in.

There are 2 things holding me back from pre-ordering a SC right now (well 3 really - I just had an unexpected car repair this past week that set me back just shy of $1k). And they are: a) no maple fretboard, and b) no dual soaps, only the MM/J pups for now.

As far as the MTD comparisons go, just look at the difference in the resale values of the Heir vs the Z series. You can pick up the first for around $500, or even less, while the Z's can still fetch $800 - 900+ on the used market. And their prices new don't vary near that amount. A wise move to look at the soaps, IMHO.
Just my thoughts.

Have to get to the shop tomorrow and measure a bag.

As for the modded Brute, just ask your local tech what it would cost them to do it for you. It will be probably cheaper for them to do it then for us to do it. Also, we will be at NAMM this week and when we get back we will have a ton of custom work to catch up on, so if we did it it could be in the cue for a while.

Sorry to hear about the car repair. I feel ya on that. Both of my Brutes will be candidiates for Bart Classic Series pickup upgrades. I'm going to put a bart pre in one and an aggie in the other. First up will be the MJX-5 and I'll add a coil splitter for the MM pickup. I'm having a coil splitter installed By Donovan for the SC before shipment.

I too am partial to maple boards and this is a disappointment for me as well for the SC's. Maybe I jumped too soon and this (maple board for SC will be a later option but I just had to have one and I had the funds. For me it's a purely physical reason as I have heard basses with rosewood boards etc that still cut like a knife. My suspicion is that soaps will be available first or possibly a fretless model. Or soaps with a ferteless and any other type of Brute whether it be the standard series or SC. I think the six string and JB options will come later. But for sure, if Brubaker came out with a Brute JB with a maple board. I'd be one of the first in line to get one

No problem Kyle! We can still do it if you wish, but you will need to call me after NAMM to discuss. I find its usually better to deal with a good local tech as they can make sure it is exactly how you want it before it ships.

After bugging numerous people I am going to have my Brute Sngle Cut MM pickup wiired as such. Instead of going single/paralle/series. I'm going front SC/Series/ bridge SC. I'll be ablle to capture something similar to a 60's and 70/s JB vibe as well as running the MM in series for a bigger fatter sound from the MM PUP.

I find the difference between front & rear sc is not much to be useful. Moving your hand position is much more effective...that huge fat series sound can become tiresome at times. If you reggae sure ...but I find I rarely have a use for it . Single /series/parallel is much more versatile imo ....
