Please tell me that the Brute "insignia" on the body above the preamp knobs is just a removable sticker of some sort and not permanent. Please, please, please tell me that. And if it is permanent, then please tell me that it's ONLY on the natural finish ones.

Why? :confused:

Just one man's opinion. Hope I'm not in the majority on this, if it's not just a sticker that is.

I don't know if I would use the word "cheap" to describe it . . . "ick," sure. But I do know that it would be a deal breaker for me. There is no way I'd buy that bass unless it's a decal on top of the clear-coat, not under the clear-coat. I know how to use 2000 grit sandpaper and rubbing compound . . . problem solved if it's on top.

Otherwise, it's a gorgeous bass. Check out the FB page for the other pics he has posted of it. I really dig the headstock in all black, and the new location of the model number on it. And the back with the wood cover is very sweet too!

Maybe, hopefully, this is just a pic of the Demo model that Tom is showing off store to store, and not what the retail SC's are like.


Edit: BTW, let me clarify that I'm not trying to bash these new SC's. I'm positive they are stellar sounding and playing basses, just like any other bass that Kevin puts his name on. The body logo is just not my thing. You TB'ers out there who like this, chime in and tell us why.

I think it's just a logo on the protective plastic cover around the knobs. The bass looks good in Natural. Hmm, I ordered a Merlot.

I've seen those transparent stickers on a bunch of new basses from other companies...I think they're usually put on to prevent swirl marks on the finishes from Guitar Denter slap wankers! :bassist:

OK, got home tonight and looked at the pic on my desktop pc with 22" screen (was using my tiny net book last night, and it's amazing what a higher resolution screen shows compared to that pos) and you are right, it's a clear protective sticker. Whew, I'm relieved. Sorry for jumping to conclusions before I investigated this further. I think the heats beginning to get to my brain just a bit. :hmm: :hiding:

Sorry Tom, Kevin, and anybody else with any vested interest in these. :cool:

I have a feeling that it's going to be several good months before we hear anything on what's to come with the second generation Brute SC's . . . unless Tom throws us a bone . . . come on Tom, go ahead, do it, tell us what you know. ;) ;)

Anyway, I'm seriously hoping that they do release a soapbar version and/or a 6 string model of either the reg or SC.

I wasn't interested in a 6'er at all until took a chance and I got my hands on a Schecter custom 6 for cheap, and am having all kinds of fun that I never anticipated having with the extra string. So now I want a one from the best! :D

Man Bassman I hope so too cuase this is as close as were gonna get to a bru custom. Just replace stock soap pups and pre with barts, the bridge and tuners with hipshot hardware knowbody will know the difference. And you got a killer axe for less than $1500. don't get me wrong the JJ and J-MM sounds great but with soapbars you'll get that killer malcom tone.

When I get my Brute single cut, my MJX-5 is a candidate for Barts but I'm going to opt and choose an aggie OBP3 pre. I'm excited about the possibilities. Has anyone heard Bart Pickups with an aggie OPB3 pre? That right there is my sound. It took me until now to figure out what I wanted and liked and this combo will keep the aggressive nature of the Brute as well.

The difference between the Bart NTMB and Aguilar OBP-3 IME are:

Treble control centered 500hz higher on the OBP-3 (6.5khz vs. 6khz). It's a noticeable difference IMO. The bass control gives alot of boost quickly (small turn) vs. the smoother taper of the Bart. And lastly, I hear less texture on the lower strings with the Aggie.

None of these are good or bad things, they're simply differences. I have one of the original module basses, an Xtreme 5, that has both preamps and I settled in with the OBP-3 because I prefer it for that particular heavy Ash bass. The Bartolini still sounds great with it and that's what I use in the rest of my Brubakers.

So was I.

Most are dual coils. Some have quad coils. His current bass, the Buckeye Burl Xtreme 6 has actual custom Bartolini single coils in dual coil shells. That's the first bass he's owned like that. The majority of basses he's demoed have stock off the self Bartolini pickups and preamps.


I know this because I've played just about every Brubaker he's demoed... and many of the basses are mine.

On the quad coil tip, in general the benefit of using them is that they can not only be switched inner/outer coil, they can also be configured P/reverse P. Kevin doesn't normally wire them in either of the P configurations so the benefit of going quad coil vs. dual coil in a Brubaker other than future wiring options is...?

None that I can think of.

In a typical custom Brubaker, the quad coil operates as a dual coil. I have Brubakers with dual coils and I have Brubakers with quad coils. If there's a sonic difference I haven't noticed it yet. They sound like Brubakers, not Bartolinis;). Given that, Bartolini is definitely my overwhelmingly preferred way of getting that Brubaker sound to the amp or board. hth

This will work for as me I can take the second Brute, the SC and run all Bartolini in that one. Both will have the barts, one will have the obp3 pre and the other will have the bart pre. If I want to copy what Brad has done, the SC (ash) could get the OBP, and the MJX could get the bart pre. Not a bad decision point to be in. I think its a win win. I could even take the time to see what I like best for each bass, since I'll have both pres and identical pickups and configs. JB/MM
