Heck, the bass isn't even here yet and we are discussing price!

Lots of important things to consider, and I know that the proto and the production are always different in some way. And production cost also depends on materials, level of QC, options, electronics, yada, yada.

Worst case is that the single cut will be in the same ballpark as the current Brutes. So figure $700USD as the low end. I can see some things the SC will be and do, so the $800-$900 range clearly wouldn not be out of the picture, and the quality willl be as good or better then Ibanez, and those come in that range as well. And lets not forget Schecters, some models cost way more then I'd give ya for 'em.

This is Brute discussion? Discussing a new form of Brute is just as much Brute discussion as talking about current Brutes, IMO.

Thats like not allowing discussion of a new model in the Lakland, Fender, or EBMM clubs.

actually the necks on the brute line is satin finish. and as far as the Brute SC5 the singlecut being part of the brute club it should be . as it is still a brute. just another addition to his Brute line of import bass's.

No problem , I think the whole brute Idea was to get a quality brubaker bass into the hands of the budget bassist.A lot of players can't afford to have a handmade U.S. Model brubaker bass . so I think that is where it all started. Then at last years NAMM show the brubaker brute series sign was above a pair of singlecut brubaker bass's , everyone thought that these were new models when actually it was a couple of KXB standard models , either way that is when kevin's phone started ringing off the hook, with an influx of people wanting a singlecut brubaker bass they could afford. I think that this is how the singlecut is coming to be I could be wrong but from what i have heard that's what is happening.He chimed in on either this thread or the singlecut one and said what he is up to.

For me personally the Brute series fits what I do perfectly, I have been working for a living as a musician for the past few years in casino's and on average usually play 4 to 6 nights weekly. I have a few bass's that are worth high dollar but I usually just keep them at home. Gigging all the time would probably put a hurt on them with little nicks and dings and so on. But I am comfortable taking the brute wherever I need to go and don't feel like I am suffering at all by Playing it all the time.It has taken over top spot in my lineup. the bass's I keep tucked away are 3 fender performer bass's I got way back when under an endorsement deal along with a 1976 J bass (the second bass I ever bought).I had a warwick FNA jazzman 5 but since having the brute's I let it go as it wasn't getting played.

BTW that is not in the normal Clements price range as far as I know. I've owned a Clement. Very nice basses.

So what would be reasonable? No flames, I'm genuinely curious. I pointed out the differences between this and the $700 Brute and IMO they aren't trivial. In addition, look at import prices these days. There are import basses pushing $2K. A bunch well over $1k. I'm pretty sure these aren't going to be less than or the same price as a doublecut Brute so what bump to have the identical neck joint construction as US Brubakers would be reasonable? IDENTICAL at this point. My idea was to keep it more like the original Brutes.

Here's my personal take and something that concerned me from the start: I'm pretty sure a big part of why Brubakers do what they do is the neck joint construction. It actually does what Kevin hoped it would do. This is well under half the price of the lowest priced US Brubakers, the Standards, which as it turns out have been tough to do competitively as a US built instrument at $2500. If the new electronics perform as expected, it should be a relative bargain for the results achieved. And if a smart shopper wanted to pick one up and put the identical electronics that Kevin uses as standard, you'd have a pretty killer instrument for well under $2k. At that point the bass would compete with anything out here, period.

Period. Seriously. It'll compete with US Brubakers at that point and that did concern me. I've mentioned that to Kevin. We'll see how this all pans out.

I know $1200, if that's where it ends up, is not peanuts for everyone... neither is $1000, $900 or $700 for that matter. So what would be reasonable for what you're tentatively getting? Again, I'm genuinely curious.

As to competing with a used Clement... :D. I get it, I just don't get it. That's not the target market. Why not keep this new vs. new?

Haha, is is getting out of proportion. All I was saying was, I expected the SCs to be nothing more than a different body shape. I wasn't expecting all these upgrades. Which is why I brought up my price question. Dig?

Total ignorance and being inquisitive, on my part.

i got shipping confirmation today on the Black JJX5 with Natural PG , only a few days more to wait , Kevin is still doing all the setup's and any PG upgrades at this point . I don' know how the fret edge problem someone mentioned got by him. glad to see he cares enough to check things out himself. I also got one of the new brubaker gig bags coming with it , they looked pretty cool on the brubaker group photo on facebook so I'll post some picks when it gets here.This makes number three for me. to bad my first one was stolen .well at least i will have 2

Very cool!! Did you get it direct from Brubaker or one of the new ebay stores that carry them?

Best color scheme of them all IMO. Here's my completed JJX-5. I realized I never posted the final pics of my beauty. Delano pups and Delano 3-band eq w/ 3-way mids toggle. Knobeez rubber knobs. Black brass hipshot A-style bridge. Black hipshot UL tuners.

Yeah, very, very, cool!!!! I saw that endorsement listing added under your name. You've got to let us know if you do any recording or videos with the MJX or even the new JJX. I'd love to hear/see that.

Yes, that is the one that started out natural. It's been a fun project . . . changing out a couple different preamps 'til I was happy . . . swapping out the hardware . . . filing down the nut a little at a time to get the action just perfect . . . Different brands/types of strings (settled on DR Fatbeams, same as my KXB) . . . etc. . . Think I'm finally done playing with it . . . maybe :hiding:

Actually did a video last week with the red MJX I got from you. And am doing some recording with it this week. We are planning on rerecording the current album with the new members . I am doing pics this week with it also to send to Kevin for his website . I think you will like the band just search google for red sea rising. the current recordings were basically done home studio last year and now we are changing it up and making them more alive but the message is there. and by the way your black JJX5 was the inspiration for the one that is on it's way to me.

A bolt through singlecut is a very different animal. A neck through would actually be a much easier build than the close tolerance four sided neck pocket... but it would'n't yield the same sonic results. At least none of the neck throughs or set necks I've come across have so far.

I got to watch the gyrations over the years that Kevin had to go through to get them to this point.

The gigbags are a nice surprise for me... they're very nice. I got one last week. Lightweight, well padded and very well thought out. I carry my US Brubakers in it. Nice job by AP on that one. That thumbnail sized pic on Facebook doesn't really show much... have to work with Kevin on how to post normal sized pics;)
