Am I correct in that the SC will also not have a pick guard? I understand that was designed with the idea of keeping the original brutes cost down.

The pick guard is actually one of the cool features I like about the brute; some have compared it to a ramp, and I definitely feel it with slapping. the hand doesn't travel as far, and it definitely helps with speed and accuracy...

Anyone aware what Brand/Weight of strings the Brutes ship with?

I think one of the more interesting things with Brutes is that it is one of the most electronics modded basses. Why? Because the hardware construction is superior, especially for an import.

You can easily mod the bass and pull out the exact tone you want.

Not necessarily the worlds best selling point, but its something to think about.

The Brutes definitely are beginning to scare the big boys.

Actual that was discussed from it's inception. Knowing how much many folks love to modify instruments (whether they actually need it or not is another matter ) I was sure the Brutes would be a great affordable "mule" for modders... and that's how it seems to have worked out. I think the same will be true for the singlecut. The idea for both was to have electronics that were good enough that they didn't have to be upgraded and I think that was also achieved.

Those pickguards are killing me! You can look back through this very thread and see HOW LONG I've been looking for a replacement MJX guard. Tried to get one from Kevin for about 8 months and he never had any plastic ones (wanted a wood one, but just couldn't justify the cost). Finally ended up getting a new one when Kevin got set up with a distributor and it cost about the same as DS1's natural one that he's selling. Makes me sick

One other question: Is there any kind of "official" warranty on the Brutes? I've been searching but can't find any info on it. I know if anything ever happened Kevin would make it right, but its good to know warranty limits.

90- days from manufacture for any defects in material and workmenship.

The strings were spec'd by Kevin. At one point he was thinking about offering them for sale. Not sure where that stands.

Fresh out of the box here at the office.

I wasn't sure going in about the Red Burst pickguard, but initial impression was positive. I think I'll keep it rather than snatching the Blue Burst here. I very likely may add a bit of shine to the pick guard... not sure I like how the matte finish feels against my thumb and hand.

The bass doesn't feel as 'large' as it appears or seems. I was surprised by the width of the high end of the neck and 'oh my' is this neck flat... I like flatter necks, but my my this seems flat to me. I think it's going to be good.

That's another thing that makes me sick. The NEW Brutes come with those nice flamey pickguards for no extra price! I like that red burst

well they actually are an upcharge, but not much when ordering it that way new . and from the pricing i have seen from ebay sellers they are getting it. It also seems like the majority of buyers like the flame gaurds rather than the plastic ones. wonder what is happening with all the take off plastic gaurds.

Yeah it's just funny. Everything I've been through with Brute pickguards over the last year, and now they're readily available. I was thanking my lucky stars when I FINALLY found a plastic one and gladly paid full price for it! Now here's a flamed wooden one for sale for less than I paid for the plastic one, and one made by Kevin that I would have snatched up 3 months ago. Oh well, I'll have one someday!

STFLBN - glad you are happy with the bass my friend! That red pickguard is gorgeous, and I remember that your bass was really live and sounded very good acoustically!
