I have to disagree with you on this one. A good friend of mine has one and it has to be be around 10lbs. It's like a rock, but it sounds AWESOME!

Well, I find mine to be roughly the same weight as my Fender 4string jazz, but then I am used to my main axe being 15lbs+ so anything else would seem lighter!

If it's as good as its reputation then the squier sounds great, but I'll put in a word for the bass I've been tempted to buy to complement my ATKs, the Yamaha BB415 - it's very different to the ATK (passive, PJ configuration) sounds good, plays good, not expensive. The Squier is active as is the ATK and you may want to consider having a passive bass in your arsenal.

The stock strings are garbage. I bought a set of DR Low Riders when took mine home. They improve the stock B string 110%

i was planning on sticking some DR hi beams on it, put some on my ibanez artcore and it sounds superb

i love a jazz bass, but if you want something deep and aggressive (which i think is exactly what you want), it's tough to beat the L2500. especially seeing as they sell used for ~375.

also, re the passive thing: L2500's have a passive mode

There is a cat on craigs looking to trade or sell a five string Cort. He says its comparable to an Ibanez. It looks pretty nice. He is near Philadelphia and was looking to trade for a fretless 4 or possibly sell it I think. It was like a week ago, so maybe its still there.

The DR Low Riders work great on my Passive 5 String Squier also.

Have you ever considered a Yamaha BB415 or 615? You can get the p-bass punch with j bass clarity in a 5 string with either active or passive electronics.

just came back to this thread because i have my squire deluxe coming in tomorrow and noticed i overlooked this post, i have 2 passive basses now, my ibanez artcore agb140 and my epi thunderbird.
