Yeah I've had mine for like 7-8 years and I don't really ever turn it off.This right here. A set it and forget it kind of pedal, it just makes my bass sound better (at the right setting)... it's been my compressor for 13 years now, love it.
And it’s quite simple to use, especially if you’re just entering the competitive compression arena. It’s also reasonably-priced.TC Spectracomp. If you're into tone prints it's great IMO.
Since you said "budget" right there in the first sentence...
I had a Joyo Scylla on my board until I replaced it with a Lusithand Alma.
The Scylla is a VERY good compressor pedal.
But for the price? Unbeatable.
I had to triple the price before I found something I liked better.
The tone (tilt EQ) control on the Scylla will let you cut highs/boost lows, and there are enough other knobs to dial in a wide variety of compression sounds.
I almost sent mine back...until I figured out that the attack and release controls function backward from what I expected.
The manual leaves a lot to be desired - but once you dial the Scylla in, it sounds great.

Focusing on Attack and Release knobs, I have the same idea as yours: their function backward from what I expected or from what is commonly meant in compressor settings.
They have to be meant as speed control and not time. Turning knobs clockwise means speed increase thus shortening compressor action.
So probably:
Tha same is for RELEASE knob. 8 o'clock means low speed release (long time to release). 4 o'clock means high speed release (quick release).
- If ATTACK is fully clockwise, the speed will be high and the compressor engages after a very short amount of time (very quickly).
- If ATTACK is fully counterclockwise, the speed will be low and the compressor engages after a very long amount of time (very slowly).
Do you think I am right? What about RATIO knob? I wrote to JOYO company, hoping that a technician will reply my questions.

If your intent is to learn what the different controls can do, get any compressor that has:
- Input Gain
- Threshold
- Ratio
- Attack
- Release
- Makeup Gain
- Dry/Wet

Coming from a production background, one of my peeves about pedal compressors is the fact that they don't provide controls for all these standard compressor parameters.Your list just eliminated about 98% of all compressor pedals out there.![]()
It might be more than 98% -- I'm trying to think of a pedal that has both input gain and threshold ... There are a few with all the others plus either threshold or input gain (e.g. Mira and Mozztronics have threshold, the new Warm Audio Pedal76 has input gain but no threshold), but I'd be interested to know if there is one.Your list just eliminated about 98% of all compressor pedals out there.![]()
Clear nailpolish would dime the LED, a cloudy yet semi-transparent (semi-opaque?) makes a great dimmer for bright LEDs.I did it with a couple small pieces of electrical tape. Use something like 3m super 33 and it's flexible enough to cover well.+1 for Joyo Scylla compressor pedal.
The most budget one and only one in that price having all controlls it should have. Works well. You will need black paint to dime green LEDs.
