IMO the most signature part of the BxK sound is that mid notch. If you can replicate that with an EQ or filter, I feel like most ODs or distortions would work just fine.

Yeh the BB is a GREAT TS (I don't like using the word clone) alternative, with absolutely no low end loss whatsoever, in fact it's quite the opposite!!
The Joyo Green thang does indeed sound great in the demo vid but in the real world I think I'll lean forward for a BB all things considered

That's cool. the xotic bass bb is a pretty good overdrive pedal. I tried the bass bb model on my zoom b3 and it sounded great with the acoustic amp model with the ampeg 1x15 model. I was able to achieve a warm distorted bass sound that closely resembles that of a carl martin bass drive. anywho, if you feel that the bass bb is the right overdrive for you, go with it.

I personally own a darkglass vmt and it is my go to bass overdrive. I like this pedal for it's warm tube overdrive sounds. it sounds great for rock and metal music. other than that, I am considering getting the joyo orange juice pedal out of curiosity. the youtube clip that was posted earlier is what inspired me to get one. I also plan to buy one of the joyo chorus pedals as well. either the analog chorus or the future chorus.

I think although the BB is a good pedal, it's tonally opposite Darkglass. Rusty Box, Oxford, those are similar(haven't tried the Joyo, but the controls are different from an Oxford). By the time you buy anything but the Joyo, you will be at least halfway from owning a B3K.
Tubescreamer-type od is midrange heavy, and gets muddier than the high, hi-mid grind of a B3K.

You want metallic, edgy, grindy. Clang. Not SVT anything, or tubescreamer.

I haven't tried the orange juice pedal myself, but I am thinking of getting one. I would of thought that the orange juice controls would be similar to the tech 21 oxford. I would assume that the voice control would be like the character control. even though on the youtube clip it does sound like it gets brighter when the voice control turns up. whatever the case, I still plan on getting one. I really dig the metallic grind from that pedal.

Source Audio Aftershock - Heavy mode out of the box is based on a DG sound. I have B7K and nothing sounds exactly like it. I have a BB, and it is nothing like DG.

Same here...I was thinking of getting the future chorus pedal. it kinda reminds me of the danelectro fab chorus. it's got that nice lush chorus sound. I am curious about how that pedal sounds on bass. so that's next on my gas list. that or the analog chorus.

Not to be that guy*, but B3Ks can be found for <$200, so that is the most obvious answer to the thread title, if not necessarily the cheapest one. The cheapest used one on Reverb is $207, they are frequently cheaper here in the classifieds; heck, they would be <$200 if you had bought new from Prymaxe on Black Friday.

Other options suggested in this thread range from good to meh.
