Bugera Veyron Now Available

It appears that originality is becoming over-rated then...

Might you recognize that there is a difference when you are on the giving end versus the receiving end of the effort?

I've been on the other side, a couple of times. I didn't raise a fuss because a. there was nothing that could be done about it, b. in the other instance we adopted a design element that was growing in popularity and c. the time and effort would likely be wasted on a losing cause. I understand why you're bothered but in my case realized the futility in that. Take the bass guitar example I mentioned. Vinnie Fodera came up with the idea of the modern singlecut. Could that design element be protected? Apparently not. Many builders were inspired to do their take on it, including one I worked with. I don't have a problem with that, our basses were never confused with Foderas. I do have a problem with the import knockoffs that copy and even put a butterfly logo on their headstocks.

So... was the Veyron inspired by the Streamliner? Most likely. Obviously the back panel is no accident but who buys amps because of the rear layout? As far as the front, even from a distance I think each amp looks like itself. And their addition of multicolored perimeter lighting and the outsized lighted volume control were nice advancements on the style, making the amp much easier to use on gigs, which is my only nit that I'd pick with my Shuttle and amps in general.

The Ford Fusion got better looking when they put an Austin Martin grill on the front end...

They sure did. I was wondering when someone would get around to doing that grill. Ford used to own Aston Martin.

Then again, Aston Martin had an older model that was reminiscent of a Mustang (the Vantage).

Ok, so I've had the mosfet version for a couple of weeks now, although I've only played through my home cab, which is a 2x10. I'll have a further update once I've played through my full rig, which is at our rehearsal space.

Initial impressions. Looks clean and the lights are nice, but honestly that means jack squat. My 1001rb was probably the dullest looking gray box but was a workhorse.
Damn, it's lightweight. The fan is quiet and appears to run all the time. My GK fan was quieter and kicked in and off based on temp. Since I haven't pushed this thing it hasn't even broken a sweat. I cannot detect any heat even after an hour of playing. We'll see once we get the volume dialed up. The GK would get a little warm when volume got up there.

Sound. I'm still tinkering, but overall I am pleased at the tone. Initially, i played the head with no effects or anything else attached, trying to find the sweet spot. The ultra low button doesn't seem to boost the lows like i expect. There is definitely some shaping going on here, but it doesn't seem like something I'll use much. The ultra high does seem to accentuate the attack.
The gain is modest and this is definitely not the amp for that thick Chris Squire or Entwistle sound.
Compression. I was excited to have a head with built in compression and the promo material really bragged on this feature. Honestly, I'm not that impressed. The GK 1001rb didn't have compression so I added an Art preamp with a built in optical compressor. I'm still using the Art, FWIW as it blows this away. I also like the gain effect from the Art tube preamp as well. I'm thinking I should have spent the extra and got the tube version, as i really like the warmth it adds.

Wattage. Well, what hasn't been said. If this thing is 2k watts, I'm a monkey's uncle. I'm sure it's plenty powerful, but one thing they could have done to bury the Behringer stereotype was provide an RMS. They didn't and so that will always be bone of contention.

I had a Behringer bass head at one point and can say this isn't that. For the money it seems to be an amazing value.

I'll check back when I get some miles on this thing and get up to higher volumes.
