Build #2 & #3 - A modern single cut with a twist

Looks amazing. I like how the choices of wood came together. And I actually think the clovers are a nice touch. Sometimes, Y tuners can look sort of generic IMHO. Of course, clovers often look too vintage-y, but somehow you've built a modern looking bass that actually looks really good with clovers.

Thanks! Danget, now you have me re-thinking my strategy of replacing them lol. Ok I'll sit on the decision for a while and see what I think.
 
Nice work. How long does it take from design to “body in hand” with a CNC type process. I’m a bit of a hand tool guy but with the cost of CNC machines coming down it’s got me interested in having a dabble.

Part of that depends on the design phase and how fast you are with the software. It still varies for me but here is a rough idea:

3D design: 10-20 hours (for a new design)
CAM toolpathing: 2-4 hours

CNC (each step doesn't include ~30m setup)
CNC body: 1 hour
CNC neck: 45 min
CNC fretboard: 3+ hours (fret slots are sloooow!)

From there it's traditional sanding, adding roundovers if you didn't already, etc. I add roundovers and drill some holes manually (tuners, control knobs, etc).

I should note the design phase can vary a lot. I'm a software engineer by trade so I'm pretty comfortable with that sort of thing, and my first design took me probably 80-100 hours because of the learning curve. The CAM toolpathing took another 80. Now that I'm comfortable it's the shorter times above. Basically it will take a large up front time investment to learn the new tools/process, but then it will speed up a lot as you discover what works for your setup. I kinda think of it as the computer work replacing all the time you would spend building jigs in the traditional world. Both of them are one time investments if you are repeating the same build/process.

I hope that all makes sense. You can do some cool stuff with the cnc if you have the inclination (multiscale, blind frets, etc).

That’s it! I will say it is subject to the normal affliction of getting shiny if you constantly rub on a spot. I honestly don’t know if there is one that doesn’t. I still love it though.
