Build II - Paradox MJ5 - New design!

Things are going great this weekend. I installed all hardware and soldered the passive circuit. Still want to dot some i's, but all in all it came out superb!

I weighed the bass and it came in at 3.9 kg (+/- 8.6 lbs), not that bad for a fiver I reckon. Yesterday I ordered a set of strings, the DR MM5-45 (Fat Beams, Marcus Milller signature). When I receive them I 'only' have to finish the nut, do the fret dressing and plug it in, see if it works :smug:

So it may not be playable yet, but it's sure nice to look at:

Now that I see it, I like the satin finish, especially on the ash and the back of the neck. You did a hell of a job man, Now you just need to put that headstock logo on it.

I do have one suggestion though. Shave the pick guard on the inside of the neck pocket so it lays down flat. This bass came out to nice to skip on such a minor detail

Thanks Hopkins! I am glad too I persevered and did the red. It wasn't easy and I had some set backs, but I learned a lot and I am happy with the result!

You are right about the pg. This is one of the things that's on my list, not sure what happened though.. it fit exactly when I test installed it, maybe a changed order of fastening screws did shift it a bit. I will fix.

Thanks, but my design is not public. I want to build a brand someday and this design is a keeper. It may not be apparent, but it took me quite some time to develop, not something you would give away for free.

I get these questions a lot, mostly via a PM, also via my site. I see them as a compliment, my design seems to work. But I don't want to share it, since I worked for over three months on it and I want it to be exclusive. That's how I designed it in the first place. Still dreaming about my own shop, where you can order a Habraken Paradox if you like it. I need to do something on my building speed though... :smug:

You guys are really paying attention to the details looking at those photos ;)... but that's a good thing. I mentioned before in this thread, just a few posts back, that this happened when one week ago I tried the neck in its pocket. It was still too tight and the finish cracked... a rather large air bubble appeared on that spot. I guess the finish separated from the body. I managed to sand the finish from within the neck pocket to get at the bubble and fill it with strongly diluted varnish (that almost automatically creeps under there).

What's left are three tiny spots, about 10% of the actual bubble. The new coats of varnish seal it up again, so it's not getting worse, just a visual mark. Now it's something that doesn't really bother me anymore. It's not perfect anymore on that spot, but it's way better than when the air bubble appeared in the first place.
