I was really looking forward to that build as well. Too bad. I would love if the OP would restart it and everyone that doesn't like it buggers off.

Just as a little update for anyone who wanted to see it.

It seems to be taking very nice shape, also using the peices from the bass is exceptionally cool, a lot of effort seems to be going into this project.

+1 on starting a new thread on the build. I was subbed as well and was really looking forward to it being completed!

After just checking back up on it today, it is now starting to look like an electric bass.
The neck appears to be in, and a trussrod set ontop.
Also check out that ebony fretboard!
Based on that photo, It looks as though the headstock will be in the shape and style of a traditional double bass with the side mounted tuners.
One question I have though, the back and the front are covered with wood from the original DB, will the sides be covered with original wood as well?

Appears as though the bridge was relicked to match the patina of the rest of the instrument.
Headstock done shaping. And tuners have been added.
Neck and volute has also been shaped too.

Now it is actually starting to look like a playing bass. Everything is setup and colour is being added. Go check it out!

I especially like the Gibson bridge and the recycled tuners.
If that was me though, I would definitely not have let the nay-sayers win.

I have had to do the same thing in the past and empathize w/you. On tb (probably as on every blog-site on the net in any category under the sun) there are bullies - plain and simple. Their whole world revolves around baiting people and creating a combative situation, and I see it all too often on tb regardless of topic. Some even tip you off to that w/the avatar they choose. The pile-ons are even worse. Three words if you dare enter the cage; lead by example. Stay on the high road and don't feed the flame. Most of the people on tb are here for camaraderie, interest in the topic, and civil engagement/discussion/debate. Don't let the bullies suck you into their bs. Seriously.
By the way - the bass is awesome! That is the only point.

Ok, sorry I got all butthurt about all the negative comments on this build. Looks like no haters in this thread. The build is only a week or two from completion, so I'll post a few random build pics here.
Just finished getting the color right and the final coat of varnish done.
Got the decal applied.
I didn't like the way the original brass tuning pins were coming out, so I reliced and modified some Fender ones to fit. Original on the left, modified with Fender pin on the right.
A shot on the neck/body joint after some grinding.
Fitting the modified 150 year old tuners to the new headstock.
I'll put up some older build pics and reveal pics and vids as the mood hits. Thanks guys.
