YES! Martin sent me a few snapshots yesterday.

It's getting there. Pickups haven't arrived yet (I guess I'm not the only person that likes Nordstrands) and there's still a few hours of sanding, etc before finishing. Martin made a new neck after discovering a problem in the first, so you'll notice that it needs shaping.

It's going to look incredible when it has a finish - there's this iridescent figuring in the myrtle top that shows up when it's wet. Still, even dry, that's pretty cool, huh? :smug:

Not yet...but I hear it's close...About 2 months ago I got an email from the shop finalizing the specs as it was 'on deck' for being started in the next 3 or 4 weeks. This week I spoke with Barry Lamb @ Dingwall and he said they'd be starting it any time now...So I guess that means hopefully by the end of the summer.

It's been a long wait, but it hasn't started to wear on me until they started telling me it would happen soon.

A question for you all:

There was a problem with this neck (bark pocket found inside), so Martin is building another one for me. Bad luck, but here's a builder who wants to make it perfect rather than just hide the flaw. Anyway, because of this, I'm reconsidering the sapwood on the katalox fingerboard. I think it might actually look quite nice, but don't want to "overwhelm" the body.

Now that you can see the myrtle top (albeit dry), what's your opinion? If I went with two tone, I'd probably continue the board onto the headstock, rather than do matching (unless you all scream "matching"). The sapwood would probably be on the bottom, so I could have light dots on the dark side. Could be 50% sapwood or less.

Although my Martin Keith bass will have chrome hardware.

If I stick with the solid katalox and matching headstock, it'd basically look like the above snapshot. If you think I should do solid katalox with katalox headstock, that'd be an option too.

Please post soon so I don't hold up the new neck. :)

i say keep it matching the body wood on the headstock and solid for the fingerboard....that top looks amazing.

im glad it worked out!!!!! i dont think i will be venturing into the custom world anytime soon(even though ive been exchanging emaisl with chris stambaugh a bit...) but im really glad that the design i nagged martin about for awhile has come out so good....you are goign to be extremely happy as he is a truely gifted young luthier!

i will definitely still take you up on that drink offer some day though ;-)

Hey Kevin. Martin works quickly so it won't set things back much.

I'm not going to be looking into a Scroll bass for my next one. I'm more interested in sticking with 5 strings and I have some plans for a possible future fretless :ninja: but for right now I'm excited about getting this one.

Sooo...back to the question - solid katalox or two tone for the fingerboard? and what about the headstock?
