Building a superior 2x10 cab

Thnx will33, the details are what counts. Without putting that much thought into it this 2x10 would not be superior but only on par with..... I really believe (even more now since it's finished and I know how it sounds) it is indeed superior to other 2x10's.
Within a few weeks I know how it sounds in comparison to an Eden 2x10. And In may I'm asked to take the cabinet to a dutch DIY audio day, one guy will take a commercial cab with him to compare.

Yesterday was the first time I tried the cab with my Bugera BVP5500. A drummer friend of mine was at my house too.
It sounds just amazing, very clear articulate and natural sounding. Even at high volume no signs of stress. The drummer (who heard everything from eden, ebs to ampeg) looked at me and his jaw dropped....
Next week we go to the studio of one of the most famous bassists of the netherlands and one other bassplayer who also belongs to the top dutch bassplayers. These guys play Eden, DNA and EBS, lets see how they compare.....
And for those who still think the BVP5500 sounds like crap, they probably had a crappy cabinet connected to it because it sounds very good through this 2x10.

Well, tonight was a fruitfull evening. The Eden D210xst got an ass whoopin' :D (you can just barely see the cab underneath the Eden 410). The D210xst, sounds whimpy compared to my2x10. Everything is better, efficiency, bass extension, max spl, mid response, detail, you name it and it's better. It just is a HUGE difference.
The 2x10 also blew away the 410 you see in the picture, even with a 5-string. The bassplayer who will get his DNA cabs soon said this 210 is the best he'd ever heard!
Also, the Bugera BVP5500 held his own against the eden traveller and a master power amp. When it got louder it lost a bit of control compared to the 5 times more expensive poweramp, but for an all-in-one amp it did not dissapoint.

I was gonna say.....when you throw around these other names as sort of "high-end" cabs to compare to, they may be prestigious brand names, and they may come with a high price tag, but there isn't much really high-end about them. They're the same general designs as budget boxes, maybe a little better drivers, or just have some signature tone-stamp designed into them, but they don't have near the level of design put into yours, and i don't have to hear yours in person to know it can spank them.

Thats certainly true, the thing is, these products (or at least the D210xst) got rave reviews and even Eden themselves said that all 210's have to be compared to those. This is very ironic to me since they sound like cr...
I'm more than happy with the results so far.
One thing that was very apparant was that you could set the tone controls flat and still have a clear sound that would cut through acoustic drums. With the Eden you had to really tweak the tone controls to get it sounding somewhat right. We tested with my Ibanez RD500 and a Tobias 5-string.

The BP102 is not a good mid range driver. It excels in the low end, which also means it will not do well in the upper mids or highs. If you are thinking 2-way with a tweeter (as opposed to a mid range driver) then it really depends on how low you want to go overall. The BP102's xmax is 6.2mm and it's xlim is 10.0mm. I certainly don't hear much in the way of distortion before it reaches it's limit.

Off topic: Sundogue, how big are your BP102+6 cabs? I've got a similar cab and I'm thinking of making another one or two with an Alpha 6A and 800 Hz Eminence crossover. My existing cab is a bit on the small side, but not bad at all.

Yesterday a bassplayer from some major dutch acts tried out my cab. After only a few notes he looked at me and told me he never heard anything like it before. In the past he tried everything from markbass to ampeg. He now gigs with 2 410's from Eden because he almost gets them for free. We compared the 210 to one of these 410's. We tried several basses, precision, jazz, ampeg babybass, fretless jazz.... Especially the dynamics and the natural sound is what caught his ear, and the precise low end.
He probably wants me to build 2 410 versions :D

It's indeed German.
BMS has one of the best mid/high compression drivers out there, a coaxial unit.
