Building an Ampeg Heritage

Hodgy......a little off topic here but I wanted to let u know .....I just got my heritage svt in last week and let me tell ya......this thing is incredible and with it being my first real svt experience I am definitely hooked......one question though.....I am playing this thing through my pro neo cabs and it sounds great but would the matching 810 make it even more so?Just figured I'd throw that out there........thanks man

Bassguy7x2- The product brochure says the perfect match for a Heritage CL is a Heritage 8x10 cab. But my hero Frank Zappa says that your tone is in your head. Who ya gonna believe?
For me, my '87 SVT HD through an 8x10 is the closest I've come to the tone in my head. Then again, MY sound was a Peavey Mark IV into a GK 4x10 and a Crate 2x15 for a lot of years, so that tells you what I know.

Yeah, you can't go wrong there. I'm not a tone snob by any stretch of the imagination, but there's so much to be said for standing in front of your amp making your clothing move in the breeze created by your playing while your band-mates make futile cries to turn it down...

I wanted to ask you guys a question regarding the Ampeg SVT15EN cabinet. Which head would you consider most appropriate for this cabinet? I prefer Ampeg all the way, but I'd like an amp (preferably tube) that would give me 200 watts using an 8 ohm cabinet. I hope I'm not interrupting a different thread, but I want a bass amp that sounds great, won't destroy my pocket, and is reasonably transportable. Is this too much to ask?

Sounds like you should be looking at the Ampeg PF stuff.

The only thing that stops me from not being totally behind doing the Heyboers is being totally happy with the transformers that are on the new Ampeg amps already. I don't know...I've had the opportunity to try old SLM SVT-CL against new LOUD SVT-CL's a couple times now, and the heads all sound basically the same to me. There might be slight differences but I could get identical tones out of both from what I saw. And while I've never had the chance to compare them side by side, the VR has several people saying how it sounds just like their vintage SVT's, though JohnK did say he swapped in NOS tubes in the preamp to get it to sound identical. Johnny April of Staind said the same thing, though he slightly preferred his Blue Line (might have been the tubes).

So I guess what I'm asking is if these Heyboers are going to make me, someone who is happy with the amps Ampeg is making now but would like to support American business when I can, glad I ponied up the dough? I guess we'll get to see some tests when Hodgy gets his upcoming conversion done, but I wish I knew more about them and could get a little hands on time with an amp that has them and one that doesn't.

I'm going to guess that my endorsement level is not high enough to pull that one off ;)
