Built-in DI question...

Hey guys, I've tried my best to search for any thread that deals with installing an XLR out on a bass (similar to Wal and Tung basses). Can anyone here please send me a link to one they know of or schematics for such a project? Much obliged

Passive or active DI?

For a passive one, there are schematics on the Jensen transformer website. They have active schems too, but you'd have to figure out the power supply on your own.

I honestly don't know if active or passive. I was just asking to see if it was even possible at all. The preamp I have is an ACG EQ-02 and is ran with 18V. Is what I'm looking for passive schematics?

Active means "requires power", passive means "does not require power". Your preamp requires power. However you could still add a passive transformer onto the output of that preamp, such that the DI component itself would not take any power.

Oh..ok. I'll check the Jensen site. Do you know of any TB'ers who have done this to their bass?

For that matter, you could have an active DI powered by the phantom mixer power.
Buy a decent active DI and stick the guts in your bass.
Then again, why not save the weight, routing, and aggrevation and just use a DI box?

One less thing to carry...
I just like the idea of having it built in. I don't think that if I had to sell the bass later on, anyone would mind having a good DI built into the bass.
I think I should talk to Alan or John East about this and see what suggestions they might have. I don't know why I didn't just do that first.
BTW, using phantom power seems like an excellent idea! Thanks guys
