Double Bass Busetto or Violin shape?

The extra "bumps" on the busetto give the sound a little more space to swish around inside your bass, picking up more of a woody character. It's like when you swish a fine wine around in your mouth.

Naah, just yanking your chain.;)

It's just aesthetics, but that doesn't mean aesthetics are unimportant. Anything that increases your level of bonding with an instrument should be acknowledged, and celebrated. The more you enjoy it (on as many levels as possible) the more you'll play it.

Get the one that looks coolest to you. Which is that?

I believe the violin corners make the bass sound better because it encourages sound vortexes. So a bass with a violin shape has 4 violin corners, making it 4 times more likely to encourage sound vortexes than a bass with a busetto shape, which has no violin corners.

They make violins without pointy cutaways? Bussetto as
used in this thread (look above) means both smooth and
pointed cutaways! I'm getting confused:rollno:

I'll stick with smooth cutaways - regardless of what you call
them. I like the term Bohemian myself:D

You better get yourself edgicated by some research on these here forums before you do anymore posting, ROCKYWOOD. The hardtimers around here will eat you for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Old timers around here can be nice. :) Here you go Rocky...

You've got this backwards. The vortexes disrupt the sound, and the extra mass of the violin corners dampen the vortex effect. :D

I wouldn't say I think Busettos are ugly, but I certainly do prefer violin shape.
