Butch…another walnut build.

Parts are arriving, I’m just waiting on the neck plate and a long wait on the PU’s.
I did this minor task this morning…

That finish looks really good. What kind of tung oil are you using?
Thank you…the lowly Minwax tung oil.
I had a full can on my shelf, I decided to “use it up”!

The neck had a finish on it when purchased.

Edit: of course going this route for a finish makes it east to repair scuffs and even a refinish.

I'm very curious about how that pickup layout will sound at the end of the day.
I have another bass very much like this(link at the bottom of my post).
Both are wired stereo....so lots of bass from the neck pu/amp and tons of crunch from the bridge pu/amp. The PU's are single coil tapped. Full volume/off/half volume switches.
It roars!
Of course, in the mono mode, there is a scoop. But that's kind of cool too...just turn up the amp.

Well, I couldn't sleep...so I got up and did stuff to it...the bass!

Finished the wiring, it's very simple. I'm waiting on the PU's.

Fitted the nut, put on a set of cheap strings. Installed the string retainer.

Rough tuned it up. Of course it needs a set up and nut adjustments. But it plays.
I'm letting it sit overnight for things to settle in.

A bass is born...

This build is great.

I'm very intrigued as to how such a pickup arrangement sounds. Do you run with two separate amps, or do you process each pickup independently and the mix before sending to one amplifier?

Some sound clips would be great, if you have any from this one, or a previous build.

It roars. Punch and crunch. My absolute favorite setup. No soundclips.
Maybe I can link a FB video later. But sound on those are:cautious:.

A Rickenbacker 4005 has roughly the same PU locations. Some Hofner basses do as well.
Two amps.
My smallest stereo rig from last nights gig.

Encase someone wonders how the pickup position makes it sound. :D

It roars! Last night I told someone….punch and crunch!

It roars! Punch and crunch!

When I do play the bass in mono…it is very scooped…but has a unique sound…turn up my amp…if I were to play it mono.
98.436% I play it in stereo mode.:D

Guess it has punch and crunch so it roars.

I did a set up this morning. I set the intonation by eye the other day…it was surprisingly close!. I filed a couple of the nut slots..they were very close too.
I adjusted the nut height, slowly, not to take off too much. I still could do that a little bit again.

The truss rod needs a slight turn. When I put in the PU’s I’ll do that.
I’m thinking of doing a curved filing at the truss rod on the body so I can adjust the truss rod easily.

I’m sure I’ll look for a case or gig bag soonish…. I had a Warwick bass with a very nice gig bag(leather). I would like something like that but…$$$

The bass plays very nice. The maple/ebony AllParts neck is nice.

I need the PU’s…
