Well, I’m sure it will/should! It’s been 1 month since I ordered the custom New and Improved PU’s. It’s very hard not to inquire about them…Better not. I expect The Butch to also Roar, Crunch and Punch!
Will be sad if it does not.![]()

Said to be done on May 16th.![]()
Tom Brantley is making me a custom set of single coil, tapped PU’s. I have another bass with these and I love them. This new set is going to be a new improved version with the lower tap having more volume.Curious what kind of pickups you are going to use?

A slight delay in my order. I’m pleased that he was kind enough to let me know.Well, I couldn’t resist…I emailed for information on the pu order.

Thanks, now I have to come up with a new description...
Yes, but each PU has three settings. Are the switches individual on/off switches for each pickup?
The species of wood are drastically different for the neck (Bubinga on the other) the density of the wood, the hardness could influence it. Also the walnut in the previous bass came from a very figured example and that board was VERY dry. Also the halves were from the same board.Played this bass at a gig last night. I used their Ampeg/Genz Benz, backline(I like it) and my MarkBass 801 combo for the treble PU.
A few observations:
It sounded very good, I got lots of compliments. One guy said it sounded like a piano at times.( new Rotos…)
It sounds very different from my other walnut build.
Actually, it sounded like a P bass.
Very full bass tones and the treble was subdued.
Do the many laminations of the body make that much difference?
Does the maple/ebony P neck make it sound like a Precision?
It is different than my other bass…in a good way. I’m sure I will use both.
It played very nice. Very comfortable in my hands.
I still have to make adjustments on PU heights.
Overall, I’m happy with this bass.
I stepped on my stereo cable and pulled it out of the bass at set break…next set I was scrambling for a spare stereo cable. it had broken the cable when I stepped/tripped on the cable.
Thanks for your response. Lots of variables. The species of wood are drastically different for the neck (Bubinga on the other) the density of the wood, the hardness could influence it. or it could be the differences in the pickups.
or the differences in the room.
it’s different
glad you had good results!

My vote: All of the above. And more.Do the many laminations of the body make that much difference?

There are so many variables that all make contributions to the tone of a bass it’s almost impossible to predict what a given combination of those variables will deliver on the bandstand. Add to that the fact that two “identical” pieces of wood might actually be pretty different and every bass becomes a wild card.
Sure, they’re all going to sound like electric basses and they’re all going to get the job done but the subtleties are wildly variable, even between “identical” basses that roll off a production line one after another. I have several bog-standard P-basses that don’t sound alike. Similar? Sure, they’re P-basses and they sound like it but they don’t sound the same. Wood is sneaky stuff.

It is different but does it PUNCH AND CRUNCH!?
