ahh, so my understanding of that function is click the footswitch and the pedal enables a mix of both the A and B loops, click it again and the whole pedal goes into bypass (effectivley killing the A and B loops?)

You make some serious compromises with a LS-2, but for the vast majority of users, the LS-2 is a very useful / versatile pedal.
Are you saying, I can run 2 basses into it and it will send the signal out to my effects as an a/b switch, but can adjust the levels so they are equal??? If so, it acts like an effect loop in-line between the bass and the input of amp???
You can actually get around that one. My fx25 doesn't sound as good to me when ran from one of the effect sends of the ls2. What I do is run the bypass from my tuner into the fx25 and run the output from the fx25 into the b channel return of the ls2. My other loop has a few other pedals, currently a bass micro synth and a flanger. The beauty of this setup is that if I don't want to blend the fx25 with either a clean signal or the other effects i can turn on the ls2 and stomp on the tuner and only get the fx25 in the signal chain. The ls2 has become one of my favorite pedals. It gives me that elusive third alternative.

I did something similar to that - running the dry out from my Q-tron to my octave pedal and the output of that into return A in my LS-2 (loop B had a Muff in it) so I could get a clear run at my filter, a boostable clean octave down and a blendable fuzz. Worked out very nicely.
Of course all that's going to change when the Pickle Pie 'B' and the Meatwad arrive in the post but I'll probably still employ the LS-2 to boost the octave down and blend the results with any other effects.

running my 'clean' (ok it has other effects in the chain but the mostly clean chain) into the input, running the supercollider into loop A (ie send and return) and found out something interesting,...
bypass gives me the clean tone, loop A+B mixed gives me volume control over both the supercollider in the loop and the 'clean' chain! somehow its sensing theres nothing in loop B and letting me use the B volume as boost of the clean input... not quite sure what levels im going to use but means that I can use it as both a boost and a mix for the supercollider, means when im using supercollider it will get heard now
was having discussion with guitarist about for when I use effects using a volume pedal to enhance certain parts or something, then got to thinking about boost pedals,... but nope, this will do it all for me

I use mine to run a few effects in loop A. Loop B is empty, and I use it as a boost, going into my sansamp it kicks the drive up nicely. Since it's a Boss pedal, I presume there's a built in buffer as well.
this thing is definitely next on my gear list. it's blowing my mind just reading about the possibilities.

All hail the LS-2! Great way to mix clean with effected, PLUS easy way to control volumes, especially with very sensitive pedals (I'm looking at you, VT Bass on overdrive!), and a way to completely bypass your pedal chain if something ever goes wrong.
Imo, if you've got a pedal, and you want a second one, the second one should be the LS-2. OK, maybe a tuner. but you get my idea.
