Background for your assignment:

I have basses and amps and guitars and P and J and fretless and fretted and ABG and 4 and 5 string and semi hollow and active and passive. And a ton of pedals.
I have no debt aside from mortgage and that’s almost finished too. Kids college is covered and thanks to 1 academic and 1 athletic scholarship I didn’t even use what we saved for education. My car is paid for. Point is, don’t come back with savings or investment advice or you’ll receive a C-.

In September I’m getting $10,000 that’s not a commission, not a paycheck or any part of my salary. Nice problem to have, sure. And my wife doesn’t even like “stuff” let alone bass stuff. I don’t need to spend it all but I have been thinking it would be fun to get a bass that I don’t have or necessarily need but something kinda cool.

So hit me up. What should I get for No Reason?

And if y’all don’t give me any great ideas I’ll just get a Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster, bound and blocked, looks like a Jazz bass sort of. So technically it’s up to you to maintain the bass/guitar universal balance.

No idea what to suggest as I have all I need or want. Boutiques don't interest me much at all any more.

Put it into an easily accessible sub account and wait until something really tickles your fancy, whether MI gear or a holiday or whatever. Just enjoy whatever it is when you choose.

Oops: I do have a 'want'. A red strap to match my acoustic. $US40 from my fave local company.

The fingerboard is Sapele. Neck is Soft Maple with Ash. Body is Ash.

Sorry to be late, but ...

I don't even know if this is a thing, who would provide it, how you'd go about finding it, etc., but what I might do with the money is set up a professional recording session at a pro studio with some good pro session musicians (maybe even some that people have heard of) and some pro engineers, with me sitting in on bass. I'd learn a lot, have some fun, and walk away with some great tracks.

And assuming there's money left, I'd buy a custom dream bass (before or after, but probably before, with time to bond with the instrument before going into the session) from a designer/builder I'm copacetic with.

Being the pragmatist that I am, I'd want you to sock at least $5,000.00 away for a rainy day. So that leaves us with $5,0000. Unless you're so flush with cash that you
can just use it all. I would buy (assuming you don't already own one) a Lakland 55/94 with the top, hardware color, and neck of your choice. Just my take. Now that said
you do live in Austin correct? I'd be visiting Austins Little Guitar Works and ordering a Torzal Twist Bass. You'll still have a couple thousand left over. Once again just my take.
